Rey HRHI can understand how you feel. I was concerned when one of my dogs was withdrawn and would sometimes whimper and yelp from pain. Turned out she had back pain which, fortunately, was treatable. But while in urgent care, I was affirming my resolve not to have any surgery just to prolong her life for my selfishness.
She’s back to prancing around now but I understand how it is when something is wrong with your dog.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

P226RNYou have my prayers and virtual hugs. I am so sorry you have been dealt this blow. Soak up the moments you have. Bucket lists help believe it or not. Dogs only ever want to make us happy they are furry angels that simply just don’t have enough time with us. God Bless.
If it won't matter in 5 years don't give it more than 5 minutes.

sredingAbsolutely awful and devastating news.

We lost our boy Hank this fall in similar manner. He wasn't feeling well over the weekend so we got him into the vet first thing monday morning. Did all sorts of blood work and found that his platelets were ridiculously low and he had internal bleeding as a result. They took an xray and could see that his spleen had a very large growth on it. Due to his compromised state and less than 50% chance of successful surgery they recommended euthanasia. I went in thinking he ate a sock or something to having to put him down. We got the family all together at the vet and said our goodbyes. It was an awful day.
I reject your reality and substitute my own.

That is horrible!!! We at least get to say goodbye. My oldest is student teaching this semester so we haven't told her yet. Tomorrow is her last day and she is coming home for Christmas. Saturday will suck all over again when we tell her.

Mars_AttacksI firmly believe that life is the method that the universe uses to observe itself.
His time here is a testimony to those before. They get to swap stories of love and family. I bet he will have big stories to tell while he waits.
We all love our companions, whether they have fur, feathers or fins even. That love has a cost. It's grief. The greater we love our companion, the greater that grief will be. We gladly pay that price for the joy they bring us.
Rest assured, he loves you very much.
I am truly sorry this is happening.
