It's meaningless, as is all this ridiculous "stands with" horse shit. Utterly meaningless. It's void even of any symbolism. Empty words parrotted by people who lack the capacity or the willingness to think for themselves.

So, it truly is just mugging for the cameras and racking up travel points at someone else's expense?

God bless America.

If she truly wanted to do something good for those kids, she would grab a rifle and head to the nearest front.

That's all it is. Just by showing up, they think they're making a difference, they can come back home and either regale you with what they saw or, attempt to scold you that THEYVE BEEN THERE AND SEEN THINGS.

They'll make sure to include a few days in Paris, London or Rome to 'decompress'

Honestly, I get the impression that she's been useless for her entire life, never done a single good thing for anybody. I mean that sincerely.

I will NEVER support bailouts or debt cancellations without first addressing the student loan origination problem. The only way to fix higher Ed is to literally starve the beast.

We need to end the federal student loan system as it currently exists. Part of those changes are allowing those who cannot repay their student loans to file for Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 Bankruptcy treatment like any other insolvency. If the education was a bad business decision, then let folks deal with it in Bankruptcy court like other debts.

It may result in some schools closing, and some degree programs may not make the cut. The way I see it, our best and brightest can do more good work in STEM programs than pursuing social science degrees that offer no real economic opportunity.

Further, taxpayers should not be backstopping the financial viability of higher education institutions through student loans when many of those institutions maintain massive endowments. For example, why does a school like Harvard, with a multi-billion-dollar endowment fund still originate federal student loans? Only a portion of the alpha from endowment portfolio investments would pay for tuition and operations expenses each year.

There are many things that colleges and universities are supposed to teach out outside of the curriculum.

Time management is a huge portion of the higher education experience. You have to balance academics, studying, activities (ie sports, groups, etc), basics of eating & sleeping, and a social life. There are times when you have to sacrifice what you want to do, for what you have to do. People who fail in this often don't make it to graduation.

Financial management is another. From day one higher education is a financial drain. Done properly one that will pay off for the rest of your life. It's an investment if you will. Much like time management you will have to make sacrifices. You might have to grab a few $0.99 tacos at Taco Bell vs. spending $12 on lunch at Wendys. You might have to consider that $12 in gas is better and grab a candy bar from a vending machine. A week of eating Ramen noodles so you can go out on Saturday night is a common decision. You might have work that weekend where others are partying because you need the money. Tuition & books, gas, & insurance, housing & food are the priorities. Most importantly, paying BACK what you borrowed is a major lesson.

I busted my can in college, worked two jobs and paid 100% of my own ticket. No loans, no grants, no scholarships, no assistance in any way. My parents made just enough to not qualify but they weren't paying for it, I was. I made a LOT of sacrifices to not have any debt. I missed a bit of the 'college experience' because I was working, on duty, or studying. THere is no way in hell I want my tax dollars to go to all of those kids that I saw back in the day who took out massive loans and partied their butts off while I was working mine off. No way to they get a free ride from me.

Same here, I paid for everything and when I graduated I had zero debt.

Somehow the mysterious-all-powerful-government can pay for everything.
But where does the Government get the money?
People are so stupid.
