If you bought 6 pack or case from a gas station the tax is already reflected in the sales price. The gas station paid the sales tax when they bought the beer from the wholesaler and just pass it on to the consumer in the purchase price.
There is/ was an unfair tax advantage by going direct to the brewery.
This ^^^ is what it seems like to me as well. The obligation to pay the tax was always there, as even a Coke in a grocery store has our 6% on it. The "g" lisc craft brewery's were not thought of places which would open for food and beverage back when, and so the in house side was not followed up on till just recently. As much as I dislike new or extra taxes, this is more like fixing an oversight which the craft industry benefited from as the only place NOT paying the tax. If I'm seeing this wrong I'll willing accept corrections.
