Chicago dog all the way. And NEVER put ketchup on a HD.

StorminNorminLots of good ideas in here. For me:
#1 - yellow mustard and sweet relish.
#2 - chili with fresh chopped onion and shredded cheddar cheese.

OKCGeneI may go to Costco tomorrow and get the hot dog combo. It's pretty darn good.

RightwireI like a few things on a hotdog...
1. A single stripe or mustard
2. Sauerkraut
3. Coney Island chili and a single stripe of mustard
4. A mix of Rotel & Velveeta in a cheese sauce. It redefines a hotdog.

P220 SmudgeI see there's no fans of the Seattle dog, which is a hot dog topped with cream cheese and sauteed onions. I tried it once and didn't care for it at all. I like all those things fine separately, but combined, it didn't exactly blow my hair back.

Also, some may think it's odd, but I prefer wrapping the hot dog in a flour tortilla instead of a hot dog bun. With traditional cheap white hot dog buns, you're getting like 75% bread to 25% dog, and each bite just end ups as a gluey mass of meat-flavored dough that sticks to the roof of your mouth. (But then I'm not a fan of most cheap white bread anyway...) Tortillas are higher quality bread, and make for a better bread-to-meat ratio to boot.
Interesting. Never thought of that, and I guess I'll have to try it. Sounds good, and the logic is sound.

83v45magnaI still love a grill for hot dogs but I discovered that our air fryer does a fantastic job. So much so I would probably assume they were cooked on a grill if I didn't know better.
I love grilled onions, german style mustard and maybe a little kraut on a better quality toasted bun. The meat is almost secondary at that point but we currently use: Aldi cheddar brats or Hebrew nationals.
If it's to be a chili dog, the KISS principle is paramount. Hebrew nationals on a plain bun (lightly toasted), with just plain French's mustard and Wolf brand chili (& never with beans). With a fatter hot dog, I slice them in half lengthwise if they are getting chili. It seems to be much easier to eat without too much mess. My dad made 'em that way and I just prefer it.
I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. -Ecclesiastes 9:11

mbinkyMustard (spicy on occasion) and perhaps some sweet relish if available.
On a New England style hot dog bun of course! (I honestly never knew they were called this until I couldn't find them anywhere but back home. Now I just have my sister send me a few packages of Nissen's every now and again. Also the correct bun for fried scallop or lobstah rolls

RoguepilotKlinger (MASH) had a pretty good recommendation - hot dogs the Tony Packo’s way. Hungarian hotdog on a bun with a line of mustard, chopped onions, and topped with hotdog sauce (looks a lot like chili). Had one this afternoon in the original restaurant.
Too far to drive all the time...so a Chicago dog is usually what I build.

ChicagoSigManI'll take one with mustard, relish and onions and one with chili, cheddar cheese and onions.
Thanks!

coloradohunter44First the bun needs to be warm and fresh. Some fresh mustard, a little sweet relish, and some sweet fresh onions. The second one can be much different with some chili.

If cooked on the grill I want to see some black.

Try Aldi. Looks like there's a slew of them throughout Central Florida.
The one near me has German mustard sporadically, especially during "German Week", which started this past Wednesday. (In honor of Oktoberfest.)
They currently are offering this variety of 3 different types of German mustard:

Thanks! There's one right near me. I'll have to try it.

RogueJSKEnjoy! Aldi originated in Germany, so they tend to have a decent amount of German stuff at any given time. But availability on specific items can be sporadic, since they're small stores with lots of turnover on specialty stuff like that.
