You guys talking about the V-V-T Solenoid are on the right track.
Depends upon what your GF means by "RPM’s will rise, and she loses acceleration."

The way I interpreted that was RPM rises but she loses speed. I don't see how a VVT solenoid could cause that.

I can see how a defective VVT solenoid would cause a loss of power, thus acceleration, at higher RPM. But then she'd have problems gaining RPM and speed.

I had a 2005 Honda Accord with 250K miles, meticulously maintained by me. Transmission fluid drop/fill every 30K miles. Synthetic oil changes every 5K miles.

It started to stutter on acceleration.

The spark plugs in the car were the OEM Iridium platinum plugs that cost $15 or so each. And they had only 15K miles or so on them. I figured they were still good, as they usually last 90K miles easily. I put a new set of plugs in it, and the problem went away. Ran like a new car. Must have been a defective spark plug to only last 15K miles.

Start with the basics.

Put me in the slipping transmission camp if her description is accurate. If she is losing speed but gaining RPM while cruising something in the driveline that should be locked is coming uncoupled.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

Not a lot of info here but how does the crv engine do when you floor it from 0 - 40 MPH? Than From 0 to 65 MPH?

This should tell you if it is an engine issue.

Around 43 MPH give or take a little is generaly when many 4 cylinder cars lock up the torque converter when not near floored. The shudder and RPM rise, loss of acceleration point toward lock up torque converter and or a transmission issue from what little info I have. Unloading the parts cannon can be an very expensive way to fix cars these days. I would be tempted to find a GOOD transmission shop and see what they think. Depending on how the testing went with the 0 - 40 MPH, 0 to 65 MPH test.

Sounds like one of the clutch packs is slipping.
Either from worn frictions or fluid pressure bleed off.
Ugh, the BAXA is a pickle to disassemble.

- UPDATE -

I always try to come back to threads in which I ask for help and offer the final resolution; I wish more members did that. (Maybe a rant for another day)

Thanks for everyone’s comments and sharing of experience. Those of you who suggested that the V-V-T Solenoid needed to be changed out were spot on. Got it done a few weeks ago and everything is running great now.

Thanks much! Smile
