Well my Subaru WRX is in for service, labor day my check engine light came on. It was due for an oil change so Tuesday I took it in for oil change service. They do it most of the time because I have a hard time beating the price for the synthetic oil and filter. Plus they do a complete check up. Test battery, check tires pressure and so on.

Well they did the oil change but couldn't do anything about the check engine light, had to make an appointment. As I made the appointment, the service writer said that there was a recall on the air bags and she could get me a loner car. So I made one for Friday the 13th, because it was the next soonest day. Thursday the 12th being the first, but I had something to do with my work.

Then last Thursday I had a kidney stone attack, and been off of work. I had surgery scheduled for Friday the 13th, so I couldn't make my appointment to the dealership. So I called and told them the situation and the service writer said that I could bring my car in Thursday and that they would have a vehicle for me.

So Thursday I take my WRX in and she said that they would get right on it. My loaner car is a Subaru Crosstrek. It's a really nice vehicle. I would be very interested in one of they offered it with a turbo in STi trim, that would be badass! The only thing that I don't like about it, is that it has Subaru EyeSight lane departure and accident avoidance, so it's always alerting you on departing lanes, all the while I'm trying not to hit potholes. That's annoying! It has an CVT transmission, with manual mode with shifter paddles. I'm not a big fan of the placement of the paddles.

The Crosstrek rides and handles well, well, steering wheel response well, has good pep. I think that a STi trim with a turbo would sell well, I know that I would be interested.

That said, though I have been laid up and not able to get out much and the Subaru Crosstrek is a great vehicle, I truly miss my Subaru WRX! Damn I love that thing!

I'll be getting it back Monday. Friday they called said that it was ready, but I was fresh out of surgery and doped to the gills. She said that the check engine light was an old code, and nothing was found wrong. They weren't even going to charge me, though that isn't what I was told when I dropped it off, I was told then that no matter what I would be charged a fee of $155.00 for diagnostics.

So, I told the service writer Friday that since I wasn't going to be charged to go ahead and do the transmission and rear differential service, after all they already have it there and it was due.

Miss my WRX, I like my dealership service department

I have a Crosstrek with the "eyesight" for over a year. I also think the lane departure warnings can get tedious, but I get less of them, since I drive a little more carefully to avoid getting them. I guess that is part of the point.

I really like the Crosstrek, but the engine is a bit loud an underpowered. Not a lot, but it is a minor con in an otherwise great vehicle.

At least on my 2017 Outback with eyesight
you can disable lane departure warning you can also disable emergency braking.

Look at buttons by left knee.
hold for a few seconds.

I FINALLY visited a dealership. Driving up in my (original purchaser) 2008 Impreza to see an identical '19.

The '19 base model had iSight option, and it looked loud and annoying. No paddle shifters, but there was an L(ow) selector. Not too bad for under $20k, but with 0.5L less engine, -20 HP, -20 torque, it will be different from my current 2.5L 170hp / 170 torque.

The Premium model had the paddles plus other goodies. $24k less something (hopefully something, but it will not be much off).

An idiot I am after getting my '08 back, telling my SIL she can have the my Impreza ... Six months to say 'goodbye'.

So come March I'll be in the truck exclusively, missing the little boxer. Then at some point, maybe trade into a new Subie.
