Spam increase
The last few weeks I've been dealing with a big increase of email spam.
I always click the "unsubscribe" link with any email spam. This has helped in the past, but hasn't slowed things down much lately.

Anyone else notice this?

Nope.
Btw, I never click on anything from a spam email. Ever. Anything that managed to get passed the Spam filter the first time is reported as spam.

Not SPAM, but if you could stop the dozen or so goddamned phone calls I get from Bayonne, NJ every day, I'd really appreciate it.

Same here. I don’t unsubscribe. I block the sender. But it’s been bad the last week or two. I guess some database got sniped and a bunch of legit emails got out there. That’s what I always blame it on.

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.

I always block the sender in addition to unsubscribing. Doesn't seem to do much good as the spam never seems to come from the same source twice. Annoying Mad

I wish we'd take 30 seconds to track down the robo-callers and send a SEAL team in to wipe them out

I don't get spam. I have a technique that everyone I have told about laughs at, but my email inbox speaks for itself.

You too?

It's a health care scam. I finally answered one of their calls and messed with the guy until he cursed at me and hung up.

Blocking the number does not work, the calls are from (201) 215-1xxx, where the xxx is different for each call.

I have not yet found an iPhone app that will block a range of numbers.

Spam calls are annoying. Several articles in the news recently are predicting the majority of calls in 2019 will be spam calls. I have stopped answering any calls unless the caller shows up as in my contacts. If the caller is legitimate, they will leave a voice message. Another method is to get a free Google Voice number and only give that number out. It’s easy to manage it through an app on your phone. The built in voice to text is great for any voice messages left at that number.

The unsubscribe link generally works well if it is a responsible mass marketing emailer, like MailChimp or ConstantContact. But, the very next time you purchase from that same vendor, you get resubscribed. If the unsubscribe link takes you to the vendor's site, results vary, and again you will be resubscribed on the next purchase, assuming your were unsubscribed to begin with.

Unsubscribe verifies it's a valid email address.

among a host of failed strategies I've used, this one works notably better.

My own 'Nuclear Next Step' will be on the order of 'turn the damned thing OFF' unless/until _I_ want to use it, all others can find some way to contact me if needed. Other than sell me something.

The 'contact list exclusion' has been working well so far.

I have had very good results using the DO NOT DISTURB (except contact list) feature on our phones. The only downside is not getting calls from appointment schedulers (Central Booking) from some doctor's offices.

GMAIL, love it or hate it, has excellent spam filters. Maybe once or twice a year will spam end up in my In Box, and usually identifiable by me.

I did that once and only once. It was fake and I got so much spam I had to stop getting email on that account. I simply check it as webmail. Don't ever click it again.!!
