Not unlike Reagan's approach to dealing with the Soviet Union. At some point you have to call their bluff and they need to think our leader just might mean what he says.
In the past Kim and his predecessors could be pretty confident that our leaders were the ones who were bluffing and would always give in if he threw them a bone, one that he always took back. They have made it work for them for 65 years.
Now he may be facing his biggest danger, from his own side of the border and has a difficult balancing act.
