Seoul is a pretty populated place. If we didn't really want to evacuate Houston in the face of Harvey, I'm not sure we'd know what to do with all the folks from Seoul.

Not to mention the fact that evacuation would take far too long even with everyone proceeding in an orderly manner.

Once the North Koreans see Seoul being evacuated, they'll probably attack due to suspecting the evacuation means an attack from the US is imminent.

There's no great way to keep it secret or hide it in today's social media / instant news world even if you got sneaky and trickle a relative handful of people out at a time.

Also, he can lock US $$$ in our banks that belong to anyone that continues to trade with Lil Kim. Money talks, and always has. China does not want to lose trading rights with the USA, and our allies.

That assumes that China can control, or at least strongly influence, N.Korea. That has been true. But it is no longer true. Kim's recent actions, especially the H bomb, show that China can't control him.

Perhaps China can not longer control the little asshole, but they could stop all trade in BOTH directions with NK, and that would definitely cripple NK.

Exactly, a preemptive strike must happen without porky knowing. Seoul being evacuated would take weeks.....

I heard China is putting troops somewhere on the NK border.

Is this true, and why would they do it ?

To prevent immigrations form North Korea to China. The North Koreas are suffering greatly. Many would like to leave and go to China. China doesn't want them.

Apparently they are prepping for another missile launch.

I say we blow up the launch pad and everything around it for about 1/2 mile.

If they fire this one toward Guam, which they seem to be getting ready to do by moving it to the west coast, we have already said we will shoot it out of the air.

This would be excellent practice for the US, a live fire drill where the target was provided free of charge.

They must be very confident that they won't miss. It's a little like Babe Ruth pointing to the bleachers.... Big Grin

Why China won’t hold North Korea accountable

Sep. 05, 2017 - 4:34 - The London Center for Policy senior fellow Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer on what level of responsibility China holds for the actions of North Korea.

Responsibility is one thing, and I think Dobbs and Shaffer made that argument well.

What I think China hasn't thoroughly thought through, though, is the full implications of the fact that what happens to North Korea happens on their border. It's a good way to menace Asia, yes, and it's a passable buffer for the PRC. But geography makes North Korea a potential indirect way to attack the PRC itself. In that sense, the threat to the Chinese is the same whether Li'l Kim is the aggressor or not and whether the Chinese admit he's their yard dog or not.

Whatever Beijing says about who's responsible for what, it behooves the Chinese like nobody's buisness to, y'know, effect a transition of executive leadership in Pyongyang.

And they're at it again.

As John Bolton recently said, the sanctions will not work. I agree.

There are only two ways to stop this shit. Direct military action and/or cutting off ALL trade with China.

Option #3, operation Jimmy Hoffa by some country that is finally tired of his shit and not afraid to do what it takes to end this. He could even have a heart attack.

Winner!

In all seriousness, I don't give a shit who's responsible for the little turd. All Trump would have to do is an executive full stop at all ports of off-loading any and all Chinese goods. (He could say suspected lead paint, child labor, yada-yada, doesn't really matter, choose your reason.)

Then, diplomatically let them know, as soon as we see regime change, the tap gets turned back on.

Kim wouldn't last 24hrs.

You're average Wal Mart shopper would be inconvenienced for a day or two, but then it would be over.

He is not a legitimate threat to us. Maybe to our friends in the region, but not to us. We should use whatever means necessary to remove him; other than our men, money, and blood in a land invasion.

Of course, if he hits Seoul or Japan or Guam etc. by all means - annihilate with extreme prejudice.

Short of that, let's let Asia handle Asian problems.

Think of it from China's position. - all "responsible" bullshit aside. They may be commie to the core, but like it or not, they're as much a victim of the free market as anyone. Now, as a player in the global market, and from a marketing standpoint: Do you want to A: effect a regime change to cool relations, and maintain your biggest client? Or do you want to B: Wait for a costly land war that - in the end - likely results in the US placing a strategic airbase (or three) right on your melon-farming border? Or you could C: Jump in the war yourself, possibly winning the brass ring, possibly losing your nation, but definitely never having that customer again?

Let logic be your guide. From a socio-political-economic standpoint, what is the likely outcome?

Wink

Personally, I wouldn't wager a wooden nickel on Kim's long-term health. If he shuts up now, he might see Christmas. If he keeps rattling, he might not even get to go Trick or Treating this year.

Could China create a regime change in North Korea?

Sep. 14, 2017 - 5:18 - Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney on what the U.S. needs to do to deal with North Korea’s weapons provocations.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Mnuchin warned that if the U.N. doesn't sanction North Korea further, he will seek an executive order from Trump to sanction any nation trading with Pyongyang.....here that China! Eek

Right now a coalition of the willing (PRC, ROK, US, maybe even SOJ) might not be more than a couple of quick negotiations over the phone away.
