Get my pies outta the oven! |
*If you're just here to bitch and moan about how you hate the NFL, please keep steppin'* I only watched about half the Super Bowl, I'm not even a football fan but always watched for the commercials and really didn't see many great ones this year. Between watching the 3 kids and handling food, I maybe see 1/4 of them anyway. My observations: --VERY heavy on the 90's nostalgia --VERY heavy on the electric vehicles if it was a car or truck commercial --Avocadoes From Mexico ads are playing the very day the USDA just blocked all shipments from there...OOPS! --I think the new practice of releasing the commercials the week or so before has really diminished the whole concept of a special Super Bowl commercial that everyone looked forward to The only one I really liked this year (then again I did not see the whole thing) was the Larry David commercial, that dude is hilarious! Thank you Very little |
Wonder if NBC had trouble selling them considering that much of the advertising was for NBC tv shows, and there were a ton of "Californized" ads. Larry Davids was good, as was the Arnold BMW Zeus ad, I kept watching to see if he wrecked it at the end..

What I noticed was there was much less hoopla about the commercials and they were even allowing competing products. I remember the alcoholic soda commercial by a big name company then towards the end, there was a commercial from a competing brand. There was a second set of competing commercials. The ads may not have been memorable because nothing sticks to my mind other than the Selma Hayak / Arnold commercial. That's because I did see some pre-superbowl hype about it. But I didn't even recognize Arnold at first until I figured out it was Selma Hayak and remembered. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I did not see any good ones - IMO. There was one prior to the game for the Paralympics about the cross-country team where one of the brothers went blind. THAT brought, and still brings, tears to my eyes. Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. Several years ago, before we had a capable DVR (I think we still had a VCR), I did the same. I'd been hearing about the awesome Super Bowl commercials for years. Kept half an eye on the game, awaiting commercial breaks and halftime. Got to the end of halftime and the game restarting and said "That was it?" Never did that again. Left-Handed, NOT Left-Winged! |
The Big Liebowski-esque bowling ad with Steve Buschemi was good. The black girl walking in was first shown only by her legs, in the same purple outfit as John Turturro's Jesus character.

Yes that one was pretty good too, that was Serena Williams. If you noticed it was several big time sports people you'd never imagine seeing bowling like Peyton Manning and Alex Morgan.

I like that e-Trade one with the babies from years back.

The Sopranos kids GM EV SUV one was good. I don't care much for GM or EV SUV's, but it was a good commercial. But then I'm Italian and was born near Newark, so....

They just remind me to keep questioning what I've done with my life if a dude like Colin Jost can end up with Scarlett Johansson.

This and the Larry David commercial were my favorite. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I will be your brother, and I'll hold your hand. You should know I'll be there for you!

Banned for showing his ass |
I too was disappointed with the commercials (except Larry David ...that was good ! ). The commercials to me lacked the imagination and humor from the old days. Back then I loved watching the commercials, but this year was a good time to take my bathroom breaks.

Just saw it this AM. I liked it, worked in Newark for 17 years, wife lived right off 13A. My daughter lives a couple of miles from Bahr's, told me there's no charging station there! Imagine seeing this, hopping in your EV to go to Bahr's for a nice dinner while your car charges.

I did not see one that I thought was worth a crap. I tried to mute the Tv during the commercials but there was someone in attendance that had to watch at least some of them. The game was good. The rest total sucked imho. Which I had no doubt that it would going into it. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

My wife loves the Subaru Barkly's commercials, but they didn't premier one this year (she doesn't watch the game for these, but finds them on u-tube). I think, overall, the buzz about watching novel SB commercials has faded even more than the game itself.

Did like the GM Sopranos ad with Tony's kids appearing, along with it being a homage to the start of the Sopranos, some of the same places being shown, interesting the cemetery was switched to a playground. The parking bit with 4 wheel steering was a good comparison to Meadows parking in the series outside the restaurant in the final show, the shot of NYC before with the Twin Towers and now without, removing the price of gas since it's an EV lots of cool references to the show... Nice side by side comparison.

My favorite was the Amazon Alexa 'Mind Reading' commercial. Also enjoyed the Larry David and Jason Bateman ads.
