ZSMICHAELFord Raises Price of F-150 Lightning for Third Time This Year, to Nearly $56,000
Ford has increased the starting price of its electric F-150 Lightning Pro to nearly $56,000, the latest in a series of sticker hikes attributed to the rising costs of raw materials.
When the first full-size, battery-powered pickup trucks began rolling off Detroit assembly lines in April, the starting price was roughly $40,000.
By August, that price had jumped to $46,974. And in October, Ford executives raised it again, to $51,974.
New orders for the F-150 Lightning Pro will start at $55,974, a Ford Motor spokeswoman said Friday—a 40% increase from its original price tag.
The Dearborn, Mich., auto maker said rising material costs, market factors and continuing supply-chain constraints are driving the price changes.
Customers who have placed orders and are awaiting delivery won’t be affected by the increase, the company said.
Ford’s initial price of around $40,000 would have made the Lightning more affordable than many competitors and about the same price as the Cybertruck from Tesla Inc.
Auto makers including Tesla and General Motors Co. have also been raising prices on certain electric vehicles as they look to offset the higher costs of raw materials, such as lithium and cobalt, used in their batteries.
Ford and others are hurrying to capitalize on momentum for electric cars. The Lightning and other forthcoming EVs have drawn positive reviews from critics and long wait lists.

StorminNorminI am interested in the Ford Lightning, but not sure yet if I would buy it. I have a 20 year old Chevy 4x4 truck I love, but I am constantly fixing things lately but that is to be expected with a 20 year old truck.
I haven’t seen a single Ford Lightning on the road yet. I also haven’t been able to find any for sale. I have been on a notification list from a dealership for when any become available for a good while and never heard a peep.

Rev. A. J. ForsythI have watched every video on YouTube available. You have to be a special kind of retard to buy one of these things, 50k for a depreciating asset that cant tow more than 100 miles, hard pass. Buy a used truck, take the leftovers and buy an NFA gun.

I have watched a few YouTube's recently and see the owners SHOCKED by the POOR Winter performance in cold weather, about 1/2 of the dismal range when its warm out.
Cold weather performance and winter cold temps don't do well with lithium batteries. The batteries demand a heated environment or the batteries need to use there built in constant heat source to be on.

The green assholes would be thrilled by electric limiting travel to the average person. Long distance travel or travel into the wilderness (or even more than a hundred miles from home) will become a luxury for the rich elite, not for you or I- and you can bet the wealthy won’t be giving up their ICE cars.

Such a deal.

I have a hard time believing that, let alone that it was once 40% less, since apparently (heard second-hand) a Toyota Camry is running $43K. Pretty much
any new car except the cheapest shitbox like the Chevy Spark is out of my financial reach these days.

Sig2340Gents, how many of us are astonished at the cost of a new vehicle, EV or not?
$56k is roughly twice the remaining balance on my mortgage.
How do people manage a $2k mortgage payment, a $1k per month car payment, and $1k for medical insurance?

Fucking absurd. And if things continue on the current path, in 10 years, any of these prices will seem like a bargain.

jed7s9bI'm pretty sure the Kenyan said the average joe wouldn't be able afford to drive things like pickup trucks. It's all according to the plan. If those who want you to drive a little shit box can't change your mind, they will just make sure the truck is priced out of your reach.
Maybe if we simplify vehicles again to make them transportation rather than entertainment and safety cocoons we could have fair prices.

Most don't. (My mortgage is ~$900, my insurance is ~$60, and I have no car payment.)
Some try, by being in debt up to their eyeballs.
A few do, by earning a large amount of money.

When the Ford Raptor came out I recall (if I remember correctly) it being in the 40's and I thought that was way too high. At least those had the big engines. The prices of vehicles have gotten crazy - I find it difficult to pay more for a depreciating asset that I did my house.

parabellumThey can charge ten million apiece for their battery-powered shit. It won't make a bit of difference to me.

gunnuttySome of the schools in Arkansas are going to electric buses. One of the biggest issues we are having on our diesel buses is wiring issues. I can only imagine the wiring issues on electric buses, especially on rural unpaved roads.

goose5My brother in law is really singing the praises of the coming of the EV. Talking with him about it and he revealed that if you take one in to be worked on the "mechanic" has to suit up in a full hazmat suit. So, if you get into a bad accident in one of these things just what exactly are you going to be exposed to?
Don't remember where I read it but in Norway it costs more to charge an EV than to fill the tank of a normal gas car. And, gas costs a lot more over there.
