olfuzzy, thanks for the pics; it brought back memories. I worked on both the Guardfish and the Seawolf at Mare Island shipyard after my stint in the Navy.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

ArtieSPlease count me in. I was in the 3d Infantry Division (Rock of the Marne) when it was still in Germany. Held a slice of Bavaria centered on Wurzburg, which is essentially where it stopped moving at the end of WWII. I was stationed variously at Schweinfurt (that Schweinfurt, the ball bearing place), and just outside of Ansbach.
Beautiful place, in peacetime...
Very generous, and thank you for your kindness.
