I manage a Honda dealer collision center and on Monday one of our techs took a 2023 Acura TLX for a post repair test drive. On his way back to the shop a 2017 Honda Accord ran a red light and t-boned the Acura.

The Acura was spun 360 degrees into oncoming traffic and collided with a older Lexus sedan. A witness following the red light runner said she was traveling around 50mph before impact and she did not hit the brakes. All three vehicles involved are total losses.

Luckily all involved had no serious injuries. My tech is super sore and probably will not return to work until later next week.

The owner of the Acura is super cool and more worried about our tech than her car.

Probably something worldly important on her phone. Her insurance company ain't gonna be happy with her.

That was the general consensus. Her parents arrived on the scene and the mother promptly started removing items from the car including the trunk mat and jack and tool kit. Very odd, probably not her first rodeo totaling a car

accidents happen and i wouldn't necessarily begrudge anyone.

intentional negligence or reckless driving, on the other, deserves the full court press.

Wait until the shop forces insurance to cover the car and she's left with the residual value to pay off.

She won't be so chill then.

The shop better just go get her a new car and hand it over.

I almost got T-boned this morning coming out of my neighborhood by a lady driving an SUV running the red light. I had to slam on my brakes. Thank God I was not hit. My car would have been a total loss and I would have been sore. God Bless !!! Smile

C’mon that Instagram post isn’t going to post itself now is it?

It’s reached epidemic levels around here of people playing on their phones and not paying attention, the worst are the people that sit at a red light and then the light goes green and they will not move because they are too buried in their phone. Had a guy in the opposing lane drive straight at me for a few very scary seconds yesterday and I thought I was going to have a head on collision, he swerved at the last second and I could see the phone in his hand.

Glad that your tech is OK, cars can be replaced, lives cannot.

Had this happen several times while we were out and about doing errands this morning. Mad

I hope that the tech will fully heal.

I used to fume when the first or second car would delay moving when the light turned green. Now I think that is prudent to have an extra look to be safe.

That's pretty cool that the customer was understanding. The driver at fault needs to be beaten into the ground by her insurance company. It really needs to hurt to make her think twice about being such a dumbass in the future.

Something I’ve wondered about with these situations… has anyone that’s been a “victim” of a wreck caused by someone on the phone had an attorney that recovered phone records proving the guilty party was wreckless? Obviously the police report would show fault, but I’d be inclined to take legal action if someone yapping on their phone totaled my car and injured me or my family.

UPDATE:

We finally received the police report on the accident and as we already knew the young lady that hit our tech was at fault. It took almost three weeks to get the report which was alot longer than the 10 days we were told.

Our customer was super cool and she already has a new Acura picked out from the dealer.

We have the traffic camera video and I will try and upload it later.

Did you supply her a new car at no cost as a replacement to drive until this is settled?
