Wrong record. The Porsche 919 Hybrid has the overall lap record at 5:19:55 is the fastest any car has gone around the Nurburgring Nordschleife. This is the fastest a road legal production car has ever driven the Nurburgring.

Road-legal being a bit loose of a term in this case.
IIRC, the One is not road legal in the US
I doubt almost any of these see many miles or public viewing. Curious if Leno has one reserved. I know, at least during last year's F1 season, I believe both Hamilton & Bottas had one on order.

It’s road legal in Europe so it’s close enough. And I believe 275 were made and all sold out.

I need a cigarette after watching that. I thought the motor sounds were awesome. It could be the shifts sound slow because the powerband is wide enough that the revs drop a fair bit on an upshift.

That was pretty damn sweet. Way to go Mercedes.

Powertrain tech is amazing. 1.6 liter 6 cyl and 800 volt electric.

Take a look at the Wikipedia specs, they are a bit revealing and also a bit lacking. For example they list a total power output a bit over 1000 HP but they fail to subtract the power consumed by the generator for those motors. So for a long race that generator coming on stream will like take the total power output down to something like 350-450 HP. Note, the ICE engine output is 566 HP. That Wiki article also doesn't mention the battery capacity but I suspect it's sizeable enough to provide full power for all the electric motors for a full lap at the ring, so that lap record was set using the full power available. Curb weight of the car is listed at 3737 lbs. so it's a rather heavy vehicle. BTW, the transmission is a 7 speed, single clutch, manual with an electronic automatic shift package. A Dual Clutch transmission was not considered due to the increased weight and concerns about durability. BTW the engine is only rated for 31.000 miles and the car has to go back to the factory at that point to "refurbish" the engine. As for the engine sound in the cockpit, I suspect that comes from loudspeakers and is actually sounds produced by a V8, because there is no way the sound we heard was even remotely related to a V6 spinning at 11,000 rpm.

I've stopped counting.

Knowing nothing about this segment of the car world... are they not worried about a deer hopping the barriers and getting into the track? It seems it was in a wooded area and many areas seemed to have a low enough barrier for many critters to get over.

Didn't even have to open & guessed it had to be the Yellowbird
My other favorite(s) are the Top Gear series with Clarkson in the Jag diesel, then Sabine smashing his time, then almost beating it in a Ford Transit [with Viper for drafting].
Seeing that huge Transit passing motorcycles was hilarious.

RIP Sabine Frown
