...no but, I do know there's been a convoy of cars streaming in from Southern California heading to Brian Head since Mammoth is largely closed.

Under normal circumstances I visit there for work a few times a year. They have fairly good schools.

Is Saint Johns, Arizona, close enough? Surely they're related. Seven churches, one bar, one road in, one road out, gets windy as heck, no need to lock doors?

If you leave your doors unlocked, you may find some drunk locals sleeping on the floor in the morning.

My mom lives about 1/2 way between Vegas & St George, just a bit south of Mesquite, and she'd rather drive up to UT than down into Vegas. IIRC she's bought her last couple trucks up there.

Brian Head, mentioned above, was a fun time for a first time snowboarder from TX.

Yep, that's who my 'dear friend' is, just talked to him over new years. He'll chime in soon...

Well that was one of the questions, are the outdoor activities as readily available as they appear to be?

That was another question, appears the schools are pretty decent.

The reason I ask is that the family has discussed us moving out west several times, we're getting more and more committed to it here recently. Most of our focus has been on the northern UT/southern ID area, but having gotten hooked on the Matt's Off-road Recovery YT videos I find myself considering this area now as well. Having never been to the area (like I have SLC) I have no idea what to expect.

A lot would obviously be dependent on what work was available, as well as housing prices, etc. Just starting to investigate more now, but thought I'd ask for feedback from anyone willing to offer it.

My brother moved there 3 years ago

My other brother bought 5 acres just north in New Harmony. Will build this year.

I’ve been there 20 times.

I may be of help.

I'm in Washington City, which boarders on St. George.

We've been here about a year and a half and LOVE it. But coming for the S.F. Bay Area anything is an improvement.

We don't have kids and the area we are in doesn't have any kids, lots of retired folks.

The one thing we do notice is the lack of private schools, which we take as not being needed (to replace bad public schools). The only bad thing I have read about is the districts changing boundaries all the time. They need to do this because of the growing population here.

The Washington County area is one of the fastest growing areas in the country. Lots of tourists, pretty much year round.

Plenty of outdoor activities. Any other questions, shoot me an e-mail.

I see I got mentioned, still live in the St George area. TexasScrub and I had a lot of fun when he was here. Going on 16 years since we left NJ!

Yes, this area is all about outdoor activities. Hiking, 4 Wheeling, Golf, Tennis, kid friendly places.

It's hot in the Summer, expect 100° + days July and Aug. You'll be looking for elevation to cool off.

I don't know much about the school system, we were near retirement with no kids when we moved here.

If you're considering Washington County, you should visit for a few days and get the lay of the land. Residential building is out of control, prices are increasing daily! There are many different areas within WC, from semi-rural to really urban. We got lucky and bought a nice home in Toquerville, 25 minutes from St George, 25 minutes from Zion. We prefer this side of St George, less crowded more red neck. Toquerville, Leeds, Hurricane and LaVerkin are all in this area.

This is dismaying to hear. I'm not ready to move out there yet. It's on the short list for retirement though.

When the madness dies down, looking to come out for a few days to scout out potential neighborhoods. And check out some places I missed visiting last time. Smile

I spent the first 43 years of my life in Utah. St. George is a nice area if you can take the heat in the summer; I couldn't do it. Used to be a great get away in the Spring and Fall.

My aunt and uncle just sold a town home there and thought they were high on the price. Had a full price cash buyer the first day it was on the market.
