How are they? Can you skip commercials? Can you start watching something before it is fully recorded?
We are considering Hulu Live vs. PlayStation Vue vs. Sling TV as a live tv alternative to Comcast but we need the DVR option.
We already have the usual streaming options.

ICBW, but I do not believe any streaming service allows you to DVR it. I've never seen one, anyway.
I wish they did. I'd like to see Liz Wheeler's Tipping Point, but it's on when my wife and I are watching entertainment. (Tho, arguably, I imagine her show is quite entertaining.)
IME, most of the commercial interruptions in most streaming stuff, even where they occur, are far less annoying than what you may be used to on broadcast TV.

We just turned on Sling TV with a Watch Air for locals. They have a DVR service for $5 per month. You can get a 7 day free trial.
So far (5 days) so good. MikeThis message has been edited. Last edited by: mcrimm,

We use Vue. On my two new Sony Tv's that have the Vue app inbedded, we can watch live or start from the beginning when something is recording. This also works on the mobile app on my tablet and phone. The only gotcha happens with Chromecast on the one Tv we have without the app inbedded. If I start a show from the beginning on my phone or tablet then cast it to the Tv via Chromecast it will jump to live if the recording is still in progress.
ETA, the only locals we get on Vue are Fox and CBS. We watch other networks over the air and have not looked into a DVR option for that.

The service itself acts as the DVR. You can watch all or parts of a show and pick up where you left off. My TIVO records OTA programs and my streaming services act as a DVR for their shows.

YouTubeTV has DVR I use it primarily for watching Formula1.
Tried PSVue & hated the interface when run via my PS3.
YTTV runs via an app on my smart tv. Gives fast forward & rewind options. Sometimes it gives a little preview box, similar to Netflix, but not always.

I'm using DirectTV Now's Cloud DVR (beta). No charge, 20 hours storage. So far it's been OK. One show did have botched playback where it skipped large gaps. FF (at least on Apple TV) is awkward in that you can only see the time advance, but there's no frame thumbnail, so you have to guess how many minutes:seconds to advance, and use the touch surface of the tiny remote to do so.

Yup YTTV had unlimited DVR, but it appears it only keeps it 9 months. I just decided to try it out after my Spectrum bill went from $140 intro price to $175. With just keeping Spectrum Internet and YTTV it'll be $110 (plus $60 one time payment for my 2 Roku Express). Signed up last night and was playing with it a little and liked it. Guy at work loves his YTTV and sounds like since it's cloud DVR you can watch it from any device you have the YTTV app installed on, which if true is awesome.

Sounds about right. I wasn't sure the retention of the DVR. I can log into YTTV on my desktop at work, or on my phone via web & watch live TV, DVR, etc.

I have Directvnow.
How to describe their DVR? SUCKS is the most appropriate word to describe it.
You only get about 15 hours capacity. You can only keep a recording for 30 days and then they automatically delete it. On the other hand, it’s difficult for you to delete recordings. You hit delete and it's still there. You hit delete, it disappears, but reappears when you login next time.
All this would be tolerable, but when I scheduled it to record one of the World Cup Games, it did not start recording until about 15 minutes into the game. Then it would freeze and restart 2, 3, 5, 10 minutes later.

Sling sounds the most promising.
DirectTV Now is offering a free AppleTV 4k 32gb box if you pre-pay for 3 months.
That's getting a AppleTV 4K that is normally $179 for $105 plus three months of DirectTV Now basic included?
Am I missing something or does that sound like a really good deal ?
