We met when I was 28, married when I was 31 and I am closing in on 65. So yeah, married longer than not. Planning to extend the streak.

Let me help you out. Which way did you come in?

We're celebrating our 36th anniversary next week. If she was gone tomorrow, I know for a fact that I would never remarry because she has the patience of Job and has put up with me for all this time. And, out of all the women I've ever known, I can't think of a single one I could live with and not have them drive me crazy.

Stubbornness and (some) flexibility. We’d both say that there have been times when it has been being to stubborn to quit that got us over bumps. At the same time, we have both adjusted to the other. Starting reasonably (but not too) young helped us have the flexibility to adjust to living with another (though a couple more years on my own and I don’t think I’d have been marriage material.

Should my lovely bride pass, I suspect it would be quite difficult for to be flexible enough to adjust and be a good spouse for anyone else. Not to mention the thinning pool at an age anywhere close to mine. Not that it would be impossible, but certainly not a high probability of finding another spouse.
