I was traveling in the Dallas area last week and saw a number of “Rent a Tire” stores.

Granted, everyone has their financial issues, but is this really a thing?

LOLOLOLOL. Here in South Florida, YES. They rent out those giant rims and tires you see on hooptie's that have the proverbial window rattling bass music.

It's been going on for years. I think it started with the spinner craze, you rented/leased the wheels and tires.

It's sad to admit, I am heading there now.

We have it here but you don't rent and then give them back - it's rent-to-own, like Aaron's Furniture.

Only time I saw a place like this was in Killeen, TX outside of Ft. Hood. I thought it was unique to military towns as they preyed on young Soldiers trying to impress on a limited budget.

I mean, who wouldn't want to finance some wheels/tires for 24% interest on top of the 18% interest they're paying for the V6 Camaro? Confused

Pretty funny. Sad... but funny.
I was looking for a new wheel for an Acura TL recently after one was slightly bent from a curb infraction. I was amazed at the prices of some of the aftermarket wheels I came across.

I found a used factory wheel for $50... and that was a one time payment with NO interest charge. Wink

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Don't forget to put the payments on your 40% interest credit card...

Or take out a 200% interest payday loan to cover this month's payment to stave off getting repo'd.

I saw a TV show on the high interest bottom feeder car lots put gps and disablers on cars so people make payments. How do these rent to own wheel and tire places insure people make payments as opposed to reporting them "stolen?"

Yeah, we called it the E-dog special.

E-3 making NOT MUCH money spends all but $50 of a month on a <Insert ludicrous vehicle with all the trimmings>, so he's got no $ to put gas in it.

Of course that is what credit cards are for... so in the course of 1-2 months, he's max out on the cards, so the car and card payments start slipping...

I don't know how many times I'd see the Chiefs and Divo's sitting down with a kid, smart as hell on the aircraft but dumb as fuck financially... "What were you thinking son..."

Fast forward another month, the car is repo'ed or just turned in and the kid is driving a $1500 junkyard special, trying to pay down the $15K in CC debt.

Even worse when you add a baby momma to the mix... as a short time legal officer, I saw it all...

I saw the title earlier. Then saw "stretching tires", and figured the earlier title was an autocorrect error or something. It's too much for me, anyway. Too tired.
