ThankGod4SigFree Online tax filing web site needed
I have a pretty simple tax reporting thing like a 1040EZ but I need to report a W-2G the major websites all want $29-49 for me (because of the W-2G) to file. Does anyone have a good FREE online filing to pass on?

chongosuerteI used freetaxusa for a few years. Only cost a few dollars for the state efiling. Not sure if they charge for the W-2G.
Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.
Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.

Past few years I have used OLTonlinetaxes.com. If you link through the irs.gov free file links usually state and federal are free if you make less than $66,000.
I have had no security issues (in fact, they seem a little paranoid and can sometimes be a pain).
Also they goofed one year and charged me for state and federal. They were very fast to fix the issue.

V-TailThis might be a dumb question, but why not just mail the paper forms?

Simple answer is speed. Especially simple folk like myself. The software/sites take care of the heavily lifting and the electronic filing with direct deposit is fast. But I'm not sure how these things work for people who make a lot and/or have complex returns.
And this comes from a guy whose Mom is a CPA and would do mine for free.
Heck. I remember in the late 90's early 2000's using my phone and dialing in to the IRS. I thought I was cutting edge back then

Phone file or something like that they called it.
