(CNN) - A vegan has filed a lawsuit against Burger King over its Impossible Whopper, claiming it's falsely promoted as meat-free.

The proposed class action lawsuit says they're cooked on the same grill as regular burgers, so they're contaminated with meat byproducts.

The suit was filed by Philip Williams on behalf of other vegans.

It accuses Burger King of deceptive practices by not disclosing they're cooked on the same grill.

He says he wouldn't have paid a premium price for one at an Atlanta location if he'd known.

Burger King's online menu says the Impossible Whopper is "zero percent beef" and says "for guests looking for a meat-free option, a non-broiler method of preparation is available upon request."

The suit seeks compensation for everyone who bought the burger and for Burger King to clearly disclose on the menu that they use the same grill for all burgers.

Burger King told news outlets it does not comment on pending litigation.

Burger King should just publicly proclaim, that because of this single nincompoop, the menu offering will now be discontinued.

Yeah....that's not going to happen.

The report showed that Burger King’s sales increased roughly 15 percent globally for the quarter. In the U.S., the launch of the Impossible Whopper drove 5% comparable sales growth, which Jose Cil, CEO of RBI, noted was the “strongest level since 2015.”

We'll see just how much of that profit the suit costs. Let's see how profitable will it be to convert every store with a second broiler just for a single menu item.

I was actually wondering when this would happen. I figured someone would have thought of this sooner.

The lawsuit will fail. From the BK website:

"It's called the Impossible Whopper, and unlike every Whopper before it, it's 100% meat-free. As in the burger patty is made with plants, not beef".

Nowhere does it claim to that the impossible Burger is cooked in a non-animal byproduct environment. Then it would be called a Vegan Burger, or some such. All they will need to do to pass the advertising test is have a lab determine that the patty is free of meat prior to cooking.

What I'd REALLY love to see is the reactions of all the vegetarians that ate them come to terms with the fact that they ate sizzled burger molecules on their Impossible burger Big Grin

This was my first thought as well.

Loser pays. If you sue, and lose, you should have to pay all costs associated with the waste of time you caused.

If you can’t pay, the attorney that took your case should be forced to.

Virtually none in the overall scheme of things.

Also not happening. They already have a way of preparing the burger not using the broiler where the other burgers are made.

BK hasn't misrepresented anything.

I could get behind this with one caveat. If the attorney who filed the case did so on a contingency bases, then the attorney should be on the hook. If the attorney is actually being paid by their client, then it should be solely on the client.

Let's face it. Most of the people filing these types of suits are gold diggers, and only filing because it's not costing them anything up front.

Absolute and utter Lawsuit Abuse. I agree with the above...if you go through with it, know the consequences of losing is to pay ALL legal fees and expenses for the Defendant. JSMH...

Since it's all vegetables, just add brown food coloring and serve it uncooked. Easy peasy.

What a ridiculous lawsuit. I am a vegetarian(not a vegan) and am very happy they have the Impossible whopper(their previous veggie burger was pretty lame).

That would be a No from me.

Impossible Foods' burger is made from genetically modified soy, and its characteristic "bleed" comes from soy leghemoglobin (which later turns to heme) that's made from genetically engineered yeast.Sep 23, 2019
