Toyota has a history of not making things right. I inherited a 2003 Tundra from my dad when he became incapable of safe driving. American made Tundras and Tacomas had several years where inferior steel resulted in millions of rotten frames being ignored or covered (up) with undercoating. I’ll have to spend a couple of thousand dollars to make my Tundra safe for more than a few years. Toyota told me that the truck was in for the recall where no rust was discovered. I do not believe for a second that there was no rust when the technicians sprayed the frame. Here are a couple of pics- there is zero rust anywhere else on the frame. The truck only has 74K actual miles on the meter. But this is “normal” wear and tear…

Are you kidding me? You have some surface rust. Anyone who lives in the rust belt would kill for a frame that clean. I cant believe that you are upset about that.

Not to mention Toyota was kicking around the idea of making accessories like heated seats a subscription.

I had a 2010 Tundra and loved it, but when I went to buy a new truck in 2019 the Toyota dealer wouldn't work with me on ordering the truck I wanted. He wanted me to compromise; so I did and went and bought a Ram.

Uh, no. Look closer. The steel is delaminating like a deck of cards with air blown between them. There is a perforation through the bottom rail. There is bulging rust behind the plate that attaches the leading edge spring shackle. The rest of the frame doesn’t even have surface rust. If I do nothing, the frame will break in half one day. The steel is rotten. My dad never even drove it in the winter so road salt isn’t to blame. It doesn’t really do any good when the rest of the frame is near perfect when it’s literally fanning apart like baklava. Surface rust he says.

There are pics on the webz of gen 1 Tundra’s that broke while being lifted for tires, brake jobs, etc. just snapped in two like stale bread.
