Last week I went to a regular customers house to clean a drain. While I was working he discussed having horrible sewer gas smells in his house at times, and said he offered a $700 dollar bonus to whoever could solve it. But never had any takers, I said I'd do it.

Going in, I knew it was in a tight crawlspace somewhere, as they had a smoke test done by the sewer company at one time. As my smeller works none to good, I said I would be in the crawlspace for the next one, today was the day.

Turns out the smoke came up in the far end of the crawlspace, where nobody had ever expected. Had get more cardboard to crawl on, so the homeowner aired it out while I was gone.

Crawled back in there, and what do I find, a 4" tile pipe where a toilet had once been, the broken pipe with the lead flange was still lying there. Crawled back out and got some hydraulic cement to seal it up.

Now comes payment time, and I follow him to the bank as he hates checks. He comes out and hands me thin a envelope, and I am on my way to my next job after putting it on my dash.

Got home today, and went to put it in my wallet, it was all hundreds!! Exactly $700 more than my bill!! Found out this guy doesn't talk shit like I figured, THANK YOU RANDY!!!

Edit to add that I invested it all, yep, a Extra Large BGE will be mine next week Big Grin

Great job!

He probably gained $14,000 on the asking price of his home so it was worth it to him

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I am going to remember this if our house starts smelling like a sewer!

Our landscaper found the broken sprinkler pipe in the lawn today and only charged me $25--I gave him an extra five and felt like a cheapskate. But then it didn't smell bad.

If he was married, he would have offered twice that much just to shut her up about the problem. At least that is how it would be at my house. Big Grin

Oh, snap! Post photos of your first culinary creation. I love my large BGE.

Nice to have good customers that follow through.

It is hard to find people who care enough about their job to do it really well. Good job and you earned it. Good for Randy who really appreciated it. I know you feel good about. But not as good as he does. I wonder how many people he will tell?

Actually, I don't think it was a tip... it was what he said he would pay and so he did.
