Lead slingin' Parrot Head |
I've been aware of this training program for a couple years but wanted to wait to see what sort of a track record they have before mentioning them. FASTER training started in Ohio and the program has been exported to Colorado. I believe the Ohio program is in its sixth year and Colorado is in it second year of training. FASTER Colorado has placed trained armed staff in 15 Colorado school districts to date. The Independence Institute is a conservative/libertarian non-profit think tank that has partnered with FASTER to provide some of the funds they need to train their students. Independence Institute FASTER training program FASTER FASTER-Faculty/Administrator Safety Training and Emergency Response FASTER is a 501 c3 non-profit that provides specialized training to school, church, and other organization's faculty and staff. The training focuses on safety, proficiency, tactics, and trauma response during an active shooter incident. This is not introductory level training and students must have completed a minimum of Concealed Carry training. Students approved for it go through a 3 day intense Law Enforcement/ S.W.A.T. designed program and must return annually for re-qualification and training. I can't comment on the Ohio training or staff but the CO training instructors are local S.W.A.T. members and two of the instructors have responded to mass casualty shootings. The training is focused on the LE/ SWAT skills the students will need to respond to active shooter situation, and none of the skills that don't apply. As FASTER and the Independence Institute are non-profit organizations limited funding forces them to limit the number of classes per year and the number of students per class and therefore are selective in choosing the students who have applied for training. Although the training is focused on training school and church staff they sometimes have a limited number of slots open to students who are not affiliated with schools/ churches and they use these students to help fill classes...and they hope that, over time, word of their training will spread, gain more notice and donations, and they will eventually be able to expand their training classes. The class costs $1000 per student and upon successful completion and qualification students are issued a trauma kit that they can take back to their school, church, or home. The FASTER training program meets the insurance company requirements that cover many of the CO school districts. If you know of any school or church staff that might be interested in the training and believe that they would be approved by the school district for the training...or if you are interested in the training for yourself you can contact them through their website. Also, as FASTER is seeking donations to support their training they have partnered with a local gun store on a pretty nice carry package that they are selling raffle tickets for. Anyone interested in buying raffle tickets to support this effort just click on the above Independence Institute link and there is a video with details on the raffle. This message has been edited.
