10X-ShooterAnyone here work at a data center as a critical facilities technician?
I worked for a couple of years as a level 1 network tech based in GA but also traveled around to network centers around the US. One of 4 monitoring State networks, repairing, commissioning cabinets and devices, building out cabinets and programming Cisco, Juniper, Bay devices among many others. Used a Firebird to trouble shoot lines with providers when a problem needed to be identified and determine who’s responsible. Started with CSU DSUs, ISDNs, dial up backup modem for access to cabinets, installing optical, copper, and T1 lines. Layer a lot of Ethernet cable. It was a good job and payed well but I lived on the road since I was not assigned to one data center. It’s a Job that Is always changing and requires learning new technologies. Level 1 is ok but engineering is where you want to end up.

LargefarvaYou might be surprised at how your experience can translate over to the data center world. I don’t have any direct data center experience but landed two different jobs in less than 6 months. Keep in mind that employers don’t expect people to have experience with every single item in a job description...it’s more or less a wish list. Hopefully they’ll see your willing to learn because that’s just as valuable as experience. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you...let us know what they say next.

Sometimes yes, but often NOT....A lot of job descriptions read such that the employer seems to expect the position to be filled by a candidate that's been doing the EXACT same job, utilizing the identical skill set, processes, systems for the last 10 years! It can be Frustrating!
Keep at it Skins....You'll land the RIGHT JOB, with the RIGHT EMPLOYER sometime soon!

Skins2881Google is supposed to give me feedback by end of week, got turned down by NTT, spamming data center companies with my resume. Also got some contacts from local guys FB group trying to find something for me. Just hoping someone will roll the dice on a smart guy with a proven track record and Master Electrician license, but lacking specific experience. Fingers crossed.

I could maybe help but my main data center is in Illinois. Highly doubt you'd want to move to a communist state.

Thanks, I'll pass on that one. Surprised you don't have one in Ashburn, VA everyone does.
