Any MiniDSP (+ Umik-1) users in the house?
Bought a MiniDSP 2x4 HD to use as an active crossover (speakers rebuild project) but changed my mind and used passive xovers instead.

The MiniDSP costed me an arm and a leg ($450 - the joys of living in a remote, 4th World country) and has never been plugged in or configured.

Wondering if I should invest in the Umik-1 in order to make the MiniDSP a more versatile system and then find a practical use for it.

Am completely ignorant of all the technicalities and lingo related to sound processing. Just a fancy paperweight owner right now. Not even a conversational item.

I just want to listen to stereo music and watch multichannel movies in a room full of speakers. Nothing fancy if not for the speakers overkill. My man cave is a glorified closet

You certainly could but if you're not going to use the 2x4HD, what would you do with it?

And it's only 4th world for now, by 2031 you* guys will be the envy of much of the planet

I read wonderful things about the MiniDSP and will likely find a use for it. First thing that comes to mind is using it with a pair of subs, just for kicks.

Room Eq requires the Mic and most of the fun stuff too. But without guidance i’m so lost.

Re: world resources, been hearing that half of my life. What i can tell you is that when i was a kid water was “free”. Now it’s $2 a bottle. But the 1st world filthy rich have managed to buy the private land surrounding most of our “public” water resources, almost denying access to them.
We no longer own our resources.

Rich country, poor people. Go figure….

I wish I could give you on hands advice. I have the UMIK-1 but haven't used it yet. I don't have the crossover but l got the mike to setup and measure the room. Just never got around to using it yet but IMO it would be advisable especially for the sub crossover. Get one would be my advice.

PS how are your AMT 1's doin'?

I tell you the same thing I tell my Venezuelan friends, change takes time. But now people who know what they're doing are in place. it'll take about 5 years for Mileis reforms fully take effect, however we can be sure of what they'll be.

The MiniDSP was intended as the xover replacement, having given up on finding someone to rebuild/replace the originals.
The local reputed experts were trying to bill me according to the local price of the speakers x the vintage factor. Obscene numbers. All trying to find the depths of my pockets instead of solving my problem.
But I found the right professional and am very pleased with the restoration.

In the meantime, it took me 3 years to get the ribbons, bought in the US and brought to Belgium and finally to Buenos Aires. The MiniDSP only took 7 months but came and were bought in the UK, hence the salty price tag(taxes).

Got my ESS rebuilt and my single bucket list project done.
Selling the MiniDSP is a no-no. It is a very dangerous and deadly adventure dealing with the online market, specially with rare, expensive items traded in USD. Not worth my life.
Got to move forward with it.

The subs are my target now. Will try the poor man’s solution with the YPAO mic and tweak to the best of my hearing and patience. No big need, no need for a sub (or two) with the AMTs
