Local News - "We're just like you!"
Over the last few years we've seen a lot of examples of local news agencies, across the country, more or less reading or advancing the same message. Often almost verbatim but its clearly written to sound like it's a local thing.

I stopped watching local news years ago, but I still catch their commercials on other channels. Lately it's all about the news anchors telling you how they are just like you!I In black and white for some reason. They share how they live in your neighborhood, shop in your stores, share your concerns and problems and by god.... they are there to help!

Is anyone else seeing this with their own local news?

The local stenographers are marginally better than the network slugs. I live in a small TV market so they are usually much younger and fresh out of J school except for a few OG anchors that have been there for years. Except for the occasional live remote or one of the sports/weather people show up to a parade or some other event I call BS.

Saw today CBS network morning clown did a 5 minute package and came to Pensacola to get the pulse of people in my and Matt Gaetz’ district. Never mentioned it’s a very conservative district overall and the shit show of a candidate that was the D nominee was a very odd duck with severe personal and recent legal/arrest problems. even a moderate Democrat who was honest would look at that candidate and be like…wow best my party has ?

I've seen a number of video compilations where they show the local anchors saying the exact same thing.

As Para and others have mentioned, most of the media is owned by just a few companies. When you watch your local news station, it's likely owned by one of those corporations. When the execs running that corporation want some message conveyed, they have their staff draft a script. Once that script gets reviewed and scrubbed by the various corporate departments (PR, Legal, etc.) and receives final approval, it gets sent to their affiliates all over the country with instructions to have the local anchors read it on air.

I used to run into two people from the local new station (24 hour news channel) pretty regularly. Based on several interactions with both of them... self important assholes.

So just like in Tv! Big Grin

That's because the ownership of most TV stations at least those in media markets where they can add value to their reach for advertising sales numbers is held by about 30 companies, with a few who are significantly larger.

The link has good information for anyone that wants to really read up on media, news, papers, tv stations and how they work and who owns what.

Who owns local TV stations?
Local television stations are also increasingly coming under ownership of new media conglomerates. As of this blog post, there are just about 30 owners of the nation’s 1000+ full-powered television stations.

The size of TV conglomerates
Consolidation of station owners often means the survival of local stations in the face of dwindling ad dollars. However, it has raised questions about the diversity of voices behind the news.

Media conglomerates, like Sinclair, Nexstar Media Group, and Gray Television each own well over 100 broadcast stations. Sometimes, they own multiple stations within the same DMA.

The head local mouthpiece comes on and tells me that "journalism" is vitally important now.

Journalism is important. Integrity is important.

We currently have neither.
