Any suggestions for "gummy" or "tacky" rubberized material?

honestlouAny suggestions for "gummy" or "tacky" rubberized material?
I have a radar gun made by Bushnell, which is about 6 years old. I don't use it often-primarily to test radar detector installations. I took it out the other day and the grip, and much of the body of it-were tacky, gummy, yuckie feeling. I've run into this before but I don't remember exactly what, but when hard rubber gets like that I don't know any solution. Cleaning with soap and water doesn't help, cleaning with alcohol doesn't work. Any thoughts?

El Cid 92Another vote for GooGone. Just used it on a Savage Composite rifle that had rubber sticky on the grip inserts. Worked perfectly.
FYI... tried soap/water, alcohol, acetone. None of those worked.

83v45magnaGoo Gone or alcohol will eventually work but with a
lot more elbow grease. The best by far, are the cheapest window cleaners you will find. Takes far less effort to come off. Look for the lowest price, think 'Great Value' type brands. Unscrew the cap first, if you smell ammonia then it's good to go. Windex for instance is not ammonia based.*
A great many products get covered in this crap. Especially annoying is switches in cars, remote controls etc.
*edited to add: Do not use ammonia based window cleaners on film tinted side of car windows. It will ruin the tint.

Funny you mention this....
I just bought one of these:
Trunk Hatch Liftgate Switch Latch Release Button Rubber Cover Fits For Toyota
The damn switch cover melted and turned to goo. It really looks more like a wad of roofing tar than a door handle now....
"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

smschulzIf it is a surface accumulation then find something that will clean it.
Gummy adhesive there are plenty of cleaners/solvents such as Goo be Gone or what I use is a solvent I use when I install golf grips which is much like a lighter fluid/solvent.
If it is the surface material deteriorating then you should find something to seal or cover it such as a paint or maybe dip-it rubber .

Hamden106I have a dead blow hammer, all orange plastic. It sat for several days inside my cay in direct hot sun. Ever since it has a sticky yucky feel all over. I believe the heat messed up the plastic. Nothing that I have tried has helped.
