This morning Mrs tac found a small bottle of hand-sanitiser, usually on sale for around $2 or so, but this time prices at $9.

the store clerk had the nerve to colour up as he took her money.

It seems that there is a deal of this going on that I've heard of, but probably THE most despicable 'advice' came from the Daily Mail, advising people to grass up on their over-7o y/o neighbours who were daring to put a foot out of the house.

I exercise every day on a bicycle, having handy mile-long hill just around the corner, and happily live out in the rurals, Nobody hereabouts would grass anybody, I'm sure, as it seems to be a good way the make enemies when all this is over and just a bad memory.

I for one would not like this country to go the way of the STASI-run former DDR.

Some folks, it seems, would like that to happen.

Not sure what "colour up" means but when normal supply chains are disrupted aka supply vs demand then pricing will fluctuate.
Whether here it is just a high acquisition cost or just trying to maximize profits on old inventory the pricing will usually be volatile.
And you know the term here of "on sale" is a definition of a reduction in price from the norm not the norm.
Unfortunate as it is - it is how capitalism works.

Grass up = rat out.

During a declared emergency most states have anti-price gouging laws.

There's a convenience store here selling small bottles of hand sanitizer for $29.99.
I don't even know if what they are selling is actually real hand sanitizer.

^^^ Report them to your state. They’re violating CT law. I would even take a picture of the product and price.

If I really needed some bad, a gallon of denatured alcohol for under $10 at hardware stores seems like a better deal.
Isopropyl, a safer version can be had for low $20 range.

A local distillery started producing an alcohol based hand sanitizer. The label reads “Krobar Sanitizer” then in finer print “Helps you discover cuts you never knew you had”. A 750ml bottle was $17, limit one per customer. I want to say the four ounce spray bottles were $10, limit two per customer, but they were out of spray bottles. No worries, Mrs. slosig had a few spray bottles at home.

Since they had a sign that said, “Please buy our wines and spirits so we can keep making sanitizer for our community.” and I’m always up for trying another bourbon, I bought a bottle, which turned out to be quite nice. Good on them for helping out and marketing their other products while at it.

M.S. Walker, a local distiller/distributor behind a dozen or so smaller brand tequilas/whiskeys/rums etc has begun bottling hand sanitizer and distributing it by the caseload to most if not all police and fire departments throughout the state. They come in 375ml rum bottles.

My wife had back surgery 3 weeks ago and she was told that the night before and the next morning she was to shower with a special soap that could cause dry skin and itching,or she could just use Dial White soap. If it is good for surgery it must be good for killing Corvid 19 bugs.

I've seen the TP vendors out on street corners. Made me chuckle. I havent seen them just a week or so later so it would seem that business is bad.

Only thing I noticed up in price lately was eggs, doubled in price in the past 2 weeks.

I saw that Paul Joseph Watson video that was posted today, and in it, he's taking about all the stuff the London mayor said just a few weeks ago, that the tube was safe and people should be taking it.
PJW then showed a clip of what looked like drone footage of a person walking some dogs, and the person was getting bitched at by everybody now because it was somebody outside doing something 'nonessential'.

Just so much two faced buffoonery.

A local whiskey distillery started doing the same thing, and dropped some off at the PD for us, which imo was pretty cool of them. It's in glass jugs, looks like moonshine lol. Chief told us we aren't allowed to drink it Big Grin.

quite a few years ago I was reading an article about car dealers marking up new popular cars by large amounts. A dealer of high end cars stated that he never sold a car over msrp. He said that people would buy the marked up car but they would never forget it.

For every good, decent American giving out toilet paper to UPS drivers, masks to doctors, and just sharing groceries with their neighbors, there will always be one soul-less dirtbag trying to sell bottled water for $20 a bottle and now hand sanitizer at outrageous prices.

I could literally not sleep at night if I tried this kind of profiteering.

Most, if not all the distilleries in Wyoming are making hand sanitizer.
They will be delivering a 5 gallon bucket to each county this week.
Next week will be in larger containers to each county.
