I really enjoy sitting around a wood fire. The wife however does not enjoy the smoke and the smell afterwards.

I was searching and came across two fire pits that claim to be minimal to no smoke. As described smoke is the result of an inefficient burn and it basically wasted fuel.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with a smokeless fire pit. I have really only came across these two and they are already more than I want to pay.

Im interested in the solo stove since it does not require an electric battery.

The firepit looks interesting. I would like to see one to view how the air is distributed.

Actually that Bonfire looks great. We had a Lopi woodstove it burned logs completely leaving almost no ash and little smoke. A portable outdoor version sounds great!

I've got the SoloStove sitting in my garage. I was intrigued and since it's stainless and I needed a pit anyway I ordered it as soon as it was a good deal. I paid $240 shipped at Christmas. Still haven't had a chance to use it though. It has great reviews everywhere. Look for the sales.

If you want smokeless then IMO go gas. Outdoor gas fire features are a pretty interesting outdoor focal point.

I have a solo stove bonfire size fire pit. Works great. Very little smoke and the logs burn down to almost nothing. While the price tag sucked, I did get it on sale last year and I would buy it again.

Yeah, on sale it isn't too bad, I paid either $100 or $130-ish on sale for a plain old regular fire pit.

I was actually thinking about getting the Solo Stove (Bonfire size). It's good to hear actual feedback from members here as I'm not always trusting of the reviews I find elsewhere.

I have a Solo Stove sitting in the box in my basement. After my wife opens it on Mother's Day, I'll be able to tell you how well it works.

I live in the greater Grand Rapids suburbs, so I can't really have a super smokey fire, which is why the Solo Stove appealed to me.

I'll check back once I fire it up, so to speak.

(Looks like sigarms229 has had a positive experience, and frayedends is about where I'm at.)

I have the Zentro fire pit insert. I had a stone fire pit that I was interested in making look more "finished".

The Zentro utilizes a system similar to the Solo and I can tell you that the smoke reduction is significant.

Like any wood fire initial startup is smokey but as soon as the fire is up to temperature there really is no smoke to speak of. Once your fire is hot even adding fresh wood to the fire does not create much smoke at all.

These will fill the bill for less money. I have one and it works like a charm.

Edit to add:
If you look around they can sometimes be had for free, or scrap value money.

Look for a front loading washer with a SS drum. Most the time it will be free and a bit of work you have a nice fire place for the backyard. If you do find one leave the center drive shaft on and just flip the drive pulley 180 and you have a perfect stand. Another things I added was a small grate on the inside so the wood is a bit off the bottom. I used rebar and oxy/acet tourch to bend and weld it. If you look closely at the picture of the fire you can see the grate.

I really wonder how long any of these are really going to last and also... smoke is really going to occur bases more on what type and size wood your are burning as well as how you burn it. simplest solution might be to try and upside down fire... I won't explain further... look it up. Many chimneys sweep's swear by it,,, Not my favorite but building a fire like this does reduce the amount of smoke greatly.
