Total scum.

Many, many moons ago I was involved in something that was covered by all four local t.v. news channels, and newspaper and not one of them even got close to what had actually happened.

None of the "news stories" were close to what happened, but if you didn't pay attention, you wouldn't have known that it was the same "story".

I already knew that the "news media" was full of shit, but it proved to me that they didn't give a shit about the truth, pushing an agenda was their only concern.

The operative word being "us". WAY too many take the news media at face value. Had this ghoul's rape report aired, most viewers would never question the coverage.

Most people experience that moment when they realize the story is nothing like the actual events. Then they have take a step back and apply this to everything they have or will read in the future, lest they suffer Gell-Mann amnesia

What we need in this country is Common Sense Media Control.

How did they even get the name of the rape victim? What a pinhead - and instead of keeping his mouth shut and leaving - proceeds to throw his superiors under the bus (after being told he's on video which will be sent to everyone), and even calls them out by name. That's going to go over well when he gets back to work, although all of them should find a new profession from the looks of it.

Yeah, this.

The media never gets it right. Nor do they have any interest in getting right.

Was this a rape allegation or an actual proven rape?

You could tell by the Chief's voice he was pissed. Probably wishing he could yell taser taser, taser.

Similar thing. One of our Captains was quoted saying something at an accident scene that no one should ever say. The Chief was furious and wanted him in his office his next duty day. The problem was that Captain was in Europe in the middle of a two week vacation and was off that day and the two shift days before. Those on the scene were questioned and all stated the media was never on scene, and no one was talked to. Turns out that had a list of names from a Fire Safety Program and were making up quotes and attaching names.

After that all names came off coats, helmets, etc so they couldn't just grab a random name as it passed by if they were on scene.

Doesn't matter, the victim would have been covered by the rape shield laws. That is why you almost never see the victim's name in media reports. Sometimes, the victim will go to the media themselves at that point they aren't covered by the laws. Also if the victim turned out to be a liar and made a false allegation, at that point they are no longer covered, especially if they are charged with false report.

In my career, I’ve been involved in a few things that made the news and it’s frightening how much they get wrong. It’s really changed the way I perceive the news.

Early in my career, there was a pretty large incident command structure set up for an oil & gas catastrophic failure and there were multiple daily press conferences scheduled to be ahead of the news broadcasts. The media was about 50% right on the facts in their stories and they even credited us with developing a new cold welding technology to make the oil & gas repair. The technology didn’t exist then and 16 years later still doesn’t exist Eek

About 5 years ago, a newspaper was going to write a positive story (ie propoganda piece) for us bringing jobs to an area. I personally typed the answers to their written questions and they still managed to screw up several things in the story.
