Things have been well, everyone knows how things have been. So I took a moment to go to the range and shoot some 22.

My Ruger Mark IV, one magazine, and a brick of 22.

I started out plinking different sections of 9" Shoot N See targets. 5 yards, 10 yards, 15 yards, working through magazines and finding my best grip and most comfortable stance.

Toward the end I was targeting pieces of broken clays laying on the berm 25 yards away. There is a satisfaction in reactive targets that surpasses holes in paper.

Time and worries had gone away and I was surprised that I had reached my final handful of rounds.

It was a very good time.

I enjoy shooting my .22 rifles more than anything. They range in manufacture dates from about 1936 to 1975. Mostly Remingtons, one Sears/Marlin and one Stevens.

Relaxing way to spend the afternoon.

Well spoken.

I find a surprising satisfaction in 22 handguns.

Agreed, although mine changes the Ruger to a BuckMark and adds an Ultimate ClipLoader.

I can shoot my Ruger .22 Charger for hundreds of rounds and be happy. Relaxing and fun.

It's kind of interesting at the range. The AR/Tactical shooters, usually two guys, spotting scope, all kinds of gear, very serious.

The mil-surp and the .22 guys are relaxed, more of a social event.

Over here in yUK, despite the usual problems, I have seven .22cal rifles, from 1910 right up to 1960-ish - it's hard to tell with BSA's exactly what their dom is, from the habit they had of given serials to barrels and actions separately.

I get immense satisfaction out of all of them but in particular the Walther Model 2 sporter that he bought in 1930. He also bought a scope with it, as he had poor eyesight in his right eye from the battering he got when arrested in 1920 for helping to blow up a police station. He was lucky - a couple of his fellow exploderists were shot dead.

I use just one brand of ammunition in all of them and they all like it just fine.

That was poetic, and it "took me there", and relaxed me. Thank you!

Three of us were going to the range once a week. Lots of different guns and calibers. The consensus is that .22LR is just too much fun. No paper, we have water bottles and plastic bouncers.

Despite owning dozens of guns in at least 15 calibers, I also get the most enjoyment out of the lowly.22
Both pistols and rifles ( though I have been on a rifle kick as of late) even with the somewhat higher cost Eley ammo some of my guns prefer, still an inexpensive thing to do.
No worries about salvaging brass or extended time at the reloading bench.
I shoot NRL22 competitively as well as bullseye pistol matches both of course rely on .22’s
The lack of recoil and report, great accuracy and simple pleasures all make for a delightful day.

I ALWAYS start out with .22 and shoot a few hundred rounds, then get bored and switch to bigger stuff. Then I usually finish with .22

Everyone should own a 10-22. Mine is a Bicentennial heavy barrel. A joy to shoot.
