When I ran track in highschool. I was told that each tenth of a second was approx 1 stride. This kid would be about 4 strides behind the world record. Very impressive for a high schooler. God Bless

Mathew Boling was born June 20, 2000, so Boling is seven years younger than Scantling.

Boling has lots of time to develop.

^^^That's old news. Boling is having a great season. The 9.98sec 100m he ran in HS was not wind-legal. He did run a wind-legal & PB (Personal Best) 9.98 last month as well as a 19.92sec 200m PB. Last week he won the 200m at the SEC Championships.

Dude shoulda been a Duck.

He's going to beat it. Hell, a short haircut and different aero clothes might get him that delta.

Boling, who hails from Houston, has earned his degree in marketing and is training for a spot on the U.S. squad for the Paris Olympics next summer. Boling has range in the sprint game, too, capable of running under 10 seconds in the 100 (9.98 in 2022). Or breaking 20 in the 200 (19.92 in 2022). And he's knocking on the door of eclipsing 45 in the 400 (45.17 in July).

He happens to be a long jumper, too. For that matter, he probably could turn in a solid 5K time, as well, considering he's a trail runner in his spare time.

My dad went to Strake [graduated from Sharpstown HS] for his Freshman year & his 3 brothers all graduated there [Strake].

I go to high school track meets and love watching the mental gymnastics on the sprint starts. Last year as the season was in the playoff stage for the Missouri state championship, a skinny white guy was winning everything. The guy was ridiculously fast. I think four events is the max a runner can compete in, and he would sometimes win the 100, 200, 4x1, and 4x4. I think he had a bit of letdown in sectionals and state though.
