The current liberal Democratic mayor of New Orleans, Mitch Landrieu, has a cousin with a gun, a temper, and a tendency to suggest he is a police officer. Until recently this has not gotten much press, the focus instead being upon Mayor Laundrieu and his removal of the Confederate monuments and his aspirations to be on the National Democratic political scene. Jury found him guilty of Aggravated Assault after less than 2 hours of deliberations.

He's facing 10 years in prison at sentencing,

There's also a a civil suit pending against both Kenneth Landrieu as well as the Sheriff that made him an "honorary deputy".

A former Sheriff in Maricopa County, Arizona, used to hand those out to supporters. I stopped one for a traffic violation. He immediately whipped out what he thought was his "Get out of jail free" card from the Sheriff. I had a conversation with him about his card, and what was required to obtain such a card. He would only say that he "did things for the Sheriff". He still got his ticket.

The Perez family still has power in South Louisiana, admittedly diminished in the last few decades. The descendants of Huey P. Long still have their own parking spaces at Tiger Stadium along with their season tickets.
