If you happen to work for a business that ships wine or spirits, this doesn't apply to you. I'm wondering about picking up a bottle of something and then UPS-ing it a friend as a gift. If you've ever done it, let me know how you packed it and if you had any issues. Cheers!

You want to put enough layers around to cover up the sloshing of the liquid. Or place something else in the box to make a noise that doesn't sound like a bottle of nice whiskey. Box inside a box is usually the best method to ensure arrival without damages. You can never overpackage, it only needs to get broke once. Also, typically it is illegal to ship whiskey across state lines.

I’ve shipped many packs of beer from Washington to Mississippi. I would buy my buddy 12 good German beers at a time. He lived in a 3.0 area. It was our way around it. I’d send one a week and we kept this up for a couple years. He started going across county or state lines and stocking up as the shipping was killing him. The “lol” thread

I should have mentioned, it was shipped in a styrofoam core with an 80lb crush test box surrounding it. Overkill, but was free at the time. The “lol” thread

I’ve not shipped via UPS but have via Fed Ex. Wrap the bottle in a couple of layers of bubble wrap, pack it tight in the box and you should be good to go. “Government exists to protect us from each other. I have shipped many bottles. Pad the bottom of the box. I use a gallon zip lock with shredded paper. Wrap the bottle in a gallon zip lock, and tape it to the padding so it doesn't slide around. Fill the box with packing materials so all the space is filled. Ship it. ------------------------------ Smart is not something you are but something you get. Chi Chi, get the yayo

No problem at all. Make sure is wrapped securely, bubble wrap/towel... and you’re good to go. ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. I would pack in a wine shipper and place that box inside another box. The wine shipper sized box that goes glug glug when tipped sideways is probably a dead giveaway. I’d print the label at home and drop off at the nearest UPS drop location. If questioned by the UPS person I’d say it was olive oil.

Thank you. My brother James feels the same. If you’re shipping booze, I’m assuming it’s not a bottle of Evan Williams. You need bubble wrap. Two layers on the sides, and four on top and bottom. Pack it tight into a box. Should be less than zero wiggle room and a bitch to tape shut. Find another box two inches in every direction larger. One inch of foam peanuts on every side of original box. It should be packed tight enough that you can’t feel anything wiggle around when you shake it like a meth head shakes their baby. If it moves or wiggles, repack it. I have spent more years than you can imagine shipping items via every imaginable way possible. Double boxed and double packed. It’ll make it.This message has been edited. I've heard, if you ship Evan Williams, you have to put ORMD on the outside of the box. "the meaning of life, is to give life meaning" ✡ Ani Yehudi אני יהודי Le'olam lo shuv לעולם לא שוב!

U-line makes tubes for shipping. I have sent a few bottles in a properly sized cardboard tube with newspaper in it. Then I put that into a rectangular box to further pad the bottle. And BTW CPD SIG, that Col. Taylor is great, got a bottle last week and sipping it is fantastic "Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor.” Robert A. They actually make shipping boxes specifically for this and wines, if you're sending something pricey might be worth it at $10 or so. If sending something from the bottle shelf, I'd just put it in a USPS envelope and hope it breaks! You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

Drink the whiskey yourself and instead mail a gift card for the appropriate amount. Problem both solved and enjoyed.

This may sound like overkill, but I shipped bottles inside one of the Harbor Freight Pelican knock off cases with the pick and pluck foam. I guess it just kind of depends on how dear the contents are, but the nice thing is, you could hear NO slosh, and it was o-ringed, so if it would happen to break, the contents would not leak out and ruin anything else. I was able to get the foam plucked to fit two bottles inside one case. One of the bottles was round and the other was in a square box. I took pictures, it was pretty cool even if i say so myself.

Don't Panic |
Not to be 'that guy', but be aware that some states have archaic liquor control laws that prohibit residents getting alcohol delivered. I live in one of them but there are others. One way to confirm/tell is to go to an online liquor store and see if they would ship whiskey to your buddy's address. If they would, then it's most likely legal for your buddy to receive whiskey shipped from you as well. Don't agree with those laws, and I don't know how tightly they are enforced by the states, but I would imagine shippers would know and follow the laws if they are or become aware of what's inside.

Thanks for the replies. I found some shipping supplies made for wine that will work well for this purpose and I'm thinking a half pack of Tic-Tacs in the package may help to cover the sloshing sound.
