Agreed, and not to argue but I believe there are a lot of ignorant followers too. People who follow the crowd because they're "good citizens" or some such thought.

While there were numerous pilots losing their medical certificates due to new found cardiac issues (young healthy males...), there were also large numbers of pilots actively on the narrative bandwagon who scoffed at the warnings against rushing into taking the injection. None, and I mean none of these pilots would willingly sign up for a medical experiment that might put their career at risk no matter how slight the risk. But they totally parroted the Covid narrative about killing grandma if you don't get injected.

Our pilot association sold us down the river on lots of Covid related issues. I can definitely identify major generational differences in our employee group and amongst relatives. Younger generations are much more oriented to the collective vs individual choice.

A big part of choosing to retire was no longer feeling like belonging to the club.

Contrary to popular believe, the airline industry is owned, lock stock and barrel, by the federal government. Knowing that, the decision by the companies and the unions to sell you guys out to placate the Washington garbage and dictator wannabees makes perfect sense.

Like it or not, airline pilot work groups are on a seniority system, and the contracts have very specific language about things like minimum monthly guarantees, furlows, downgrades, involuntary reassignment to a different domicile (different city/state), awarding of leaves of absence, etc.

Our group immediately rushed to protect the most junior, at the expense of the more senior, in early 2000 when things suddenly shut down. In the end, the stockholders got the benefit of a shit-ton of taxpayer dollars in the name of full employment, but I and many others took a serious pay cut due to the concessions of the representative organization.

That's in addition to numerous statements from the board in support of vaccine and mask mandates for crew, with strong antipathy towards those of us who wouldn't take the jab.

In 20 years when this generation of pilots are the old guard, they're going to understand things a bit differently. Or not, and they will have ruined what used to be a fun and excellent career.
