I don't see much criminal liability here beyond a minor misdemeanor, but there's a good chance that once this coward (the kid is slightly built, an easy target) is identified, somebody will kick his ass.

why can this not be prosecuted as either a hate crime or a civil rights crime?

It is, at minimum, assault under Texas Penal Code.

Because I don't believe that political affiliation is a "protected class."

nhtagmemberso what you're implying is that political affiliation isn't a civil right?
and that targeting someone and assaulting them based solely on their political expression isn't hateful?

I thought Mr. Pruitt would have had a bit more thought about his resignation letter.
As his reason for resigning he wrote, "
the unrelenting attacks on me personally, my family are unprecedented and have taken a sizable toll on all of us."
He is basically saying, in our current environment, that hounding drove him out.
That statement just serves to encourage more of the same.
Disappointing when you see a SJW woman interrupting his dinner night after night on the news, telling him to resign. Will this be a new dining experience for us all?
EPA reform is needed but it challenges the centerpiece of left religion. Pruitt was tough on their agenda and there will be just as much or more action against the new administrator.
Too bad Pruitt encouraged it.

BamaJeepsterLOL. The dems are reduced to blasting a positive jobs report as 'reckless'...You can't make this stuff up
https://www.washingtonexaminer...rker-agenda-recklessDems blast booming jobs report, Trump worker agenda, ‘reckless’Democrats saw nothing positive in the new June jobs report that highlighted 213,000 new jobs added.
Instead, the Democratic Party issued a statement criticizing President Trump’s jobs agenda as “reckless.”
DNC statement:
After the U.S. Department of Labor released the latest jobs and unemployment numbers, DNC Chair and former Labor Secretary Tom Perez released the following statement:
“With slow wage growth, rising health care premiums, and skyrocketing gas prices across the country, Donald Trump’s reckless policies are hurting millions of hardworking families. Trump and Republicans in Congress have been so determined to undermine workers that they held a Supreme Court seat hostage for nearly a year in order to nominate an aggressively anti-union justice, who became the deciding vote in last week’s disgraceful decision in the Janus case.
“This is all part of the Republican playbook. For decades, Republicans and their wealthy corporate allies have been chipping away at workers’ rights, weakening unions, and depressing wages – all while giving massive tax cuts to the top 1%. And Janus is their most dangerous attack yet.
“Trump and Republicans in Congress are trying to build a winner-take-all economy that enriches their wealthy friends and saddles working families with the bill. Democrats want to create good-paying jobs and build an economy that works for everyone. And we will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with workers and with our brothers and sisters in the labor movement as they fight for the wages, benefits, and livelihood they deserve.”
“Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.”

FenrisHow exactly are rising employment and wages akin to hollowing out the economy?
