bionic218Literally - and oddly enough, rarely used correctly.

12131I think, pretty soon, the phrase "formerly known as twitter" will catch up to it.

My first thought as well.
Coming up quickly is singular
they. I increasingly see people default to use of singular
they, even when referring to someone who is binary/cis-gender. It's getting to the point where it's often difficult to tell if someone is talking about one or more persons.

I use "basically" or "essentially" often, when I'm explaining something in layman's terms. Why? Because, when trying to do so, my explanations are often not entirely technically accurate in every detail. I'm trying to get an idea across, not educate the reader on every last little nit-picking, bug-fracking, minute detail.
Even then my explanations often cause readers' or listeners' eyes to glaze over

kimber1911Like no.
Like viral.
Like why would you think that.

ensigmatic - I totally understand your point. What I dislike is the repeated, overuse of the word in conversation.

So, you literally disagree with OP that "viral" is the most overused word?

StarTraveler^^^ Yeah, basically.

Seriously, like ensigmatic, explaining engineering ideas in laymen’s terms often requires “wiggle words” like approximately, generally, basically, should, and so on that give the general idea with too much specifics so an issue or idea can be understood without being too technical. It gives us a little leeway to explain further if we get called on it by the lawyers if something goes wrong and it ends up in litigation, too.
