GustoferDangerous jobs that you no longer do around the house
Getting down from the roof onto the ladder. Getting up there is no problem, but turning around backwards on the edge of the roof and gingerly waving my foot around trying to blindly find that rung to step on? No thanks. Unfortunately I have a chimney that needs brushing yearly, so this year I bought a climbing harness and rope. I tied one end around the deck rail on the other side of the house and tossed the rope up and over, climbed to the top of the ladder, and clipped in. Easy peasy and no risk of falling.

Yep. We needed a new water heater and got one at Home Depot. I put the last one in but my back said "no" this time. I'm facing other regular chores that increasingly are asking too much of me.

GT-40DOCI don't do well for any length of time(5 min +)on my knees. I can get down with little trouble, but getting back up is where the problem sets in!!

grumpy1I have always painted the trim on our two story house with the high pitched roof and there is a lot of it. I now will go up to about 12 feet (my reach height) but now I hire someone else to do the higher stuff. I still save a lot doing what I can myself and frankly do a better job too. Will turn 73 in a few months I notice the so called "pros" around here don't even clean before they paint unless you have their powerwash service do it ahead of time. I just wash the higher stuff with cleaning brush on end of extension poles before they come. What I could reach I always sprayed with simple green and wiped off with paper towels. Of course I also hand scraped and wire brushed any areas with failing paint and primed too.

WaterburyBobI'll be 70 in a couple months. I still go up ladders, go on the roof and up trees.
So far, the only changes I've made is to use a hand truck or cart for heavy things and spread what used to be all-day yard work across multiple days.

Same for me --EXCEPT-- I am not allowed to go up on the roof w/o the boss holding the ladder and staying outside while I am up there.

Yep , and roofs . I get vertigo if I am up high and unprotected by a railing , etc. Didn't bother me when I was younger .

I felt the same way while cleaning the lint out of the dryer vent/goose neck on the roof. Going up no issue but trying to come down, my roof is a little steep and I kept thinking what am I doing?

Hamden106I'm 75. Ladders, roofs, steep stairs and slopes. None of these do my bad lumbar, shoulders, arthritic hip and feet any good. Stability to shoot bullseye is a thing of the past.
