Yeah me neither. On police work. It depends highly on where you work. In some places, it’s down right horrible. In other places, I believe we are in the golden age of policing. I’ll have 30 years in August 2026 (if I don’t retire before then). Yeah, it sucks sometimes. You do see things that no human should have to. But, most of it is what you make of it. But, if you are a guy that can self motivate, and have the ability to not dwell on what you can’t control, it’s a great career. I’ve really done some things that made a difference. But, you have to be able to not dwell on what you can’t control. Arrested a guy that got in a wreck today. Suspended license, no insurance, and had dope on him. He beat me out of the jail parking lot. It sadly is what it is.

Shit sandwich. I’m sorry this happened to you, especially when you tried to be transparent. I hope the new year brings better things. __________________________ "Trust, but verify."

Sums it up pretty well. I arrested a fella out of a stolen car at the beginning of shift and got him out of a second one at the end of shift!! ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. Just finished a really long shift at PF due to lack of people and a sick teammate. It was still a stressless day overall. To answer a couple questions that were asked/presented; I wouldn’t go back to my old job. While the pay was good, I really hated it there in the last few months. I’m happy to let them fall flat on their face. I’m actually enjoying watching the shitshow and hearing about it from my buddy. The police job, I just don’t think is for me. I’m the more I look at it and the more I have thought about it, the more I think I’m not the right fit. Plus the ability to not dwell on what I can’t control… yeah, statements like that make me even more hesitant. I would be the guy stressing about the things I can’t control. The “lol” thread

Noah I’m sorry you’ve had to go through this shit show but it sounds like you figured it out pretty quickly and left before things went down the drain and was able to land at a job that is less stress. Now take that Jeep of yours (if you still have it) and take a ride out into the desert and enjoy the scenery. The day I got of the hamster wheel was a true blessing, money was why I was on it in the first place and once off it, I realized there is so much more to life than money. I think you will find a way to bring balance into your life. Merry Christmas. _________________________

Page late and a dollar short |
Beancooker, we had a saying in the automotive and powersports business that the dealer’s kids all were “educated”, they had PHD’s. That stood for Papa Has Dealership. Certainly some brought something to the table but about half of them were there just to reap the benefits. And as a result those created more work and grief for us having to pick up the pieces afterwards. Now a story from the last tile I was in management. Stuck my neck out once for one of my team. He exhausted vacation time due to serious emergency surgery, no sick days or disability insurance at that company either. I proposed giving my vacation time up to him, dealer felt I was upstaging him. I didn’t hear this directly but through the grapevine from a couple of trusted sources. Dealer relented, gave him pay against the following year’s two weeks off. After that point the dealer became less open to my suggestions and made more decisions that negatively affected my authority and my department overall. I left about a year later, he finally got me where it hurt, a one third reduction in my pay plan. -------------------------------------—————— ————————--Ignorance is a powerful tool if applied at the right time, even, usually, surpassing knowledge(E.J.Potter, A.K.A. Maybe I missed it, but it sounds like both your wife and you worked for the same company? As she got the don’t come back after vacation text? I have been VERY fortunate making good decisions with impeccable timing when leaving various jobs, moving across country etc. I do also have the good fortune as does my wife, of having highly marketable medical skills which mean I can go anywhere anytime and have a new job in about 5 minutes. Right now my job is about a 45 minute commute from home, and does require 10 days of after hours call monthly including 2 weekend call days. Otherwise it is terrific! I couldn’t ask for better support staff, and outside of call I basically work just shy of 30 hours a week but get paid for 40. I recently was offered a similar job that would be less than 10 minutes from home, with no call requirements, but decided against it. Holding on to what you know ( especially when it is good) beats moving to what you don’t know. A job with less stress good coworkers is in my mind always going to be better than chasing higher pay without those advantages
