Programmable light switch WITH dimmer - does that exist? Login/Join

I have some under cabinet lights which are dimmable LEDs. In prior house we liked having this area of lighting on a programmable switch so they turned on at dusk every day.

Problem is the new location and lights are much brighter and there are more of them across the entire cabinet area, so would like to have them dimmed some in most instances.

That leaves me needed a programmable dimmable light switch, and I don't think one exists? Anyone ever found such a thing? These lights are all wired to a single pole switch.

Oh and it has to be light almond.... Razz

Do they plug in to a 110v socket or running off a wall switch, or both LOL

If they are on a normal wall switch there are plenty of programmable switches out there on Amazon, this is one for under $10, works with Apple or Google (Alexa) and you can set the schedule with it, haven't used this particular unit, it's just an example and there are many to choose from.

If it's on a plug then you can get plugs that you use the Alexa or manufacturers app, or Apple Home to setup a schedule, we use these on the lamps around the house to set on/off times for lights in the family room, bedroom etc. You can also tell Siri or Alexa to turn on or off the lamps by voice.

I keep a few extra of the switch controllers for holiday lights, so we can turn on and have controlled by a schedule for outdoor lights.

They are hardwired, light to light to light. One switch, zero outlets. Integrated into under-cabinet area, wiring was installed during build.

I've got programmable switches in other areas already. It's the combo of programmable AND dimmer in one wall switch that seems to be unobtainium.

I have Lutron Caseta, it requires their hub which isn't a problem for me. There are a number of smart dimmers that work with Alexa and you can set schedules in the Alexa app.

I have several Kasa light switches. They can be programmed and controlled via an app. For instance, my exterior porch lights come on at sunset and turn off at midnight. I also have my front porch light programmed to come on at 4:50 and go off at 5:10 every morning so I'm not walking out to a dark driveway.

I put them in my theater room so i can dim the lights without having to get up (I'm lazy like that)

They have switches and plugs you can use and are very handy. I've got mine setup so I can turn on a whole room at once or every light in the house if its an emergency

Kasa lights - they just are managed off their app? And can I set them to turn on at sunset and retain their dimming setting, or do they come on at full blast automatically and I have to dim them manually in the app? {trying to find details, but having trouble with combinations).

It does look like the Lutron Caseta can be, since the dimmer setting is physically on the switch and the controller for on/off is in app, right? That app also has sunset on option I'm assuming.

I was thinking way too old-school where the items have to be controlled at the switch itself.

THe kasa lights are just managed on the App.
I'll check the dimming function tonight when I get home.

Programmable for what?
Brightness or time?

Brightness-

Time? I think you're going to have to run a timer somewhere in the line before the switch.

Thanks KDR - the Kasa looks like it might work if that dimming sticks. I posted a question on Amazon and someone already indicated theirs did, but I'll appreciate your verifying.

CPD - you're thinking like I was a few hours ago. In 2024 an app can control time on easily, and it looks like there are options to control auto-on with preset dimming. I want both; comes on at an ever-changing sunset time AND comes on at dimmed level.

The Caseta is programmable for on/off time as well as brightness level. Completely hands off once is programmed but you can override anything at anytime if you like.

I use this exact switch to have my soffit lights come on at sunset, and go off at sunrise, but also at 70% brightness.

It’s awesome and totally worth it.

Just set a schedule with my can lights and they came on at the brightness level they were left at (50%). However there is no setting to tell them what brightness to turn on at. You can set it for off/on at a specific time, sunrise, or sunset and you can also have the lights fade on or off. You can set as many schedules as you wish for any given switch.

Kasa has smart bulbs and switches. With the same bulbs, one is outside and turns on and off with the sun schedule. I think it goes on the internet to get the schedule as it doesn’t have a light sensor.

It has an auto setting for how bright it needs to be as it gets dark. You can also have presets on lighting.

I have the same bulb in a set of 8 in my den that I can dim altogether.

I have a kasa motion detector switch in the garage. Remote controlled also.

I just got a switch for the master closet light because it keeps getting left on. This switch has a timer on it plus remote control.

We run the bulbs in the exterior garage and front porch lights, both are on different time schedules, come on at the same time and go off automatically. I can also change color for holidays such as Halloween, Christmas.

Thank you so much KDR - I think this is going to work and be easiest without need for a hub, plus those switches are remarkably inexpensive.

Have one on the way for a test drive. The missus will be happy - I had told her to pick one (dim or auto)!~

I'm a big fan of Govee, Smartthings and Kasa, For programable dimmers, I use Lutron Z-wave. I can trigger with motion, time, duration etc. Govee makes some really cool lighting enhancements, Kasa makes good plug in Z-Wave switches. I probably have over 20 things controlled by me phone.
