Ice age heat wave, cant complain. |
Some motherless fuck stole the plate off my work van two weeks ago, I just got the replacement and I'm now realizing they took the screws as well. Are there any options for securing with tamper proof hardware or the like? Thanks, NRA Life Member Steak: Rare. Coffee: Black. Bourbon: Neat.

Never used them, but looks kind of like a pain in the butt to get off without it taking forever. Bell 22-1-45915-8 Anti-Theft License Plate Fastener I know it sucks, but just get a new plate and move on. Chances are it probably won't happen again. We had an armed robber switch plates on our car. The plate we now had on our car belonged to Dominos Pizza. A detective called and said our car was recovered but wrecked. I told him it was just outside my office. He then figured the plates had been switched. It took HOURS to get a new plate with several trips to the police station and DMV. It has not happened again.

Did you come from behind that rock, or from under it? |
I use these stainless security Torx screws on my vehicles. They won’t stop a determined thief but will deter the little miscreants walking around with a screwdriver and Vise-Grips in their pockets. Amazon-Security Torx screws "Every time you think you weaken the nation" Moe Howard

This might sound hokey, but I put some painter's putty in the head of the screw. It dries hard enough that even a determined thief will move on, but not too hard to dig out when you want to remove the plate. It takes a few minutes per screw to clean out enough to get a tool in there. Takes about two weeks from application to hardness. ETA: I also have front and rear facing dash cams with "parking mode". In the event my plate is stolen, there is a good chance I'll have the thief recorded. You’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier

Pit Bull tied to the hitch. Wired alarm sensor such that the wire breaks when the screws are turned. Red thread locker, but you’ll have to heat the screws to take them out.

I use a stainless bolt for the same reason. The little miscreants walking around with a screwdriver usually don't have a ratchet set. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

I have an appointment to see Patty and Selma (Simpsons reference) at the DMV later today. While I'm there, I'll ask whether it's legal to put the plate inside the back window. I'll post the answer this evening. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

Magnetic plate holder, just like dealers use, slap it on when you drive and then toss it in the back or take it inside with you. Although that would lead to your kid or wife taking the car with no plate one time and getting pulled over....

Anybody remember the parody of “Crime Stoppers Textbook” from the Dick Tracy comic strip that appeared in Mad Magazine? I recall one concerning the theft of fender skirts that showed razor blades on the back side of the skirt and a thief’s fingertips lying on the ground. Sorry, back to our regular programming. _______________________________________________________ despite them

That would be great, but I'd need a rear window installed in my van, which would be an even bigger pain in the ass. But let me know what they say... NRA Life Member Steak: Rare. Coffee: Black. Bourbon: Neat.

I have used the tamper resistant stainless screws successfully over the years. I prefer the stainless so that you don't get rust streaks on the plate or car. That protects the plate, but not the stickers that we have to use in MO, so I also generally put a lexan cover over the plates as well.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should |
If you can get to the backside of the anchor that the screw goes into, remove that part (plastic on most vehicles) and use a nylock nut. Once the screw is loosened a turn or two, the nut will turn on the inside requiring a wrench hold it. Like the other ideas, it won't stop any possibility of theft but will make most move on. Remember, you don't need to be able to outrun a bear, just your friend. ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

That's a good idea. no self-respecting criminal will lie down on his back on the pavement with pliers on the back hold a nylock nut with pliers while contorting himself with a screwdirver on the outside.
