My wife is getting ready to join a local ukulele group and pointed out that she might need to restring uke uke. A friend had it professionally restrung about 10 years ago and it looked pretty complicated. I looked at it and said, "That's a timber hitch. It's easy to tie." Then I showed her pages 94-94 in my copy of 'THE BOOK', which I've had since 1958.

My copy isn't quite that old, but it's still handy. Cool

The Ashley Book of Knots is a worthy investment, too.

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.

During my tenure with a Search and Rescue unit, we would have knot training. I couldn't retain any of it, since I did not use them enough. Bought a knot book to try and improve. Didn't help. Just a skill I can't retain.

I have a copy of The Ashley Book of Knots, and to say it’s a book of knots is misleading-I’d say it’s the encyclopedia of knots.

I’ve gotten into knots lately and using them like putting up a tarp to cover a path from my porch to the dogs’s poop deck I made for them. They don’t like snow.

My latest thing is I made a bunch of soft shackles from paracord using double cord Ashley stopper. I’m considering changing a couple to double diamond stopper.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." An interesting fact: knots can exist only in three-dimensional space.

In space with two or fewer dimensions there isn’t enough freedom for any knot to exist.

In space with four or more dimensions there’s so much freedom that any knot will collapse.

In space with four or more dimensions, we use warp factors instead of knots.

I like Warp 12 or higher. At those speeds the Warp Boom will cause suns to blink off for almost a full second.

I've stopped counting.

I see what you did there…

I recently learned a bunch of different knots for camping, rain fly's and tying the canoe on the vehicle. Before that about the only one I knew was the bowline, which has come in pretty handy over the years.

For me knots are a challege so I need to keep the YT tutorials handy to keep up.

Same with me. My bro, on the other hand, is a wizard with knots. As a teen he worked at a marina, picked them all up, including the skill of weaving two rope ends together Eek

Being proficient at tying many knots is something that I would aspire to but just do not have the need.

This 'tornado knot' for neckties may be used in 2024. Looks pretty cool, IMO.

And five novel necktie knots. Kinda loud video.

The Knot Guide app for iOS and Android is pretty handy. It demonstrates how to tie each knot in several steps, including motion to indicate where the rope goes.
