Eagles-Bears Game: Bears Kicker's "Double Doink"
I felt kind of bad for the Bears kicker hitting the upright, then the crossbar (hence the Double Doink) for a failed kick that allowed the underdog Eagles to advance in the playoffs last night, but these guys reaction from a Spanish langue network was HILARIOUS:

In fairness, the ball was tipped by an Eagles player.

I felt horrible for the Bears’ kicker. One of the Eagles’ players said he got a couple of fingers on the ball, which would probably explain what happened.

And the game NEVER would have come down to the last play had it not been for two stupid penalties on an earlier Philly touchdown drive (unnecessary roughness on a helmet hit and a subsequent pass interference call).

I don't follow football, but it seems to me that the kicker pretty much carried the Bears to within one point of the Eagles. Of their 15 points, he kicked for 9 of them, and the rest of the team was only able to score once. A great individual effort, which he won't get credit for since he's been kicking erratically this season.

I didn't watch the game, just listened to the highlights on the news casts.

6 times he has hit the upright this season.

I saw a compilation of that, he seems to be pretty good at that! Big Grin

He also seems to have a much shorter kicking range ability than most NFL kickers I read.

^^^ There's a reason the Eagles let him go...
But I still feel bad for him.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

That's what he gets for using that wimpy soccer-style kick in American football.

He needs to kick it like they do in Australian football. There they kick the ball and holder through the goal posts.

I pay scant attention to professional sports, but whenever I see something like a game that’s decided by some tiny error or bit of luck, I think about the targets I use for some of my qualifications. Because many of the targets are ones I make or modify myself, they’re not all exactly the same. It could be, therefore, that a marking line on one wouldn’t be exactly like the others. Someone could possibly say that if the line had been positioned just a millimeter differently, he’d have passed the test, and therefore he deserved to pass.

Although that’s never happened (yet), my prepared answer is that if passing (or winning) is dependent upon such a small variable, then the shooter is doing it wrong: Put the bullet through the center of the zone that’s several inches wide, and the exact position of the lines won’t matter. If a millimeter or two makes the difference, then that was a matter of luck, not skill, and there’s no “deserving” in luck.

Honestly, the Eagles did all they could with dumb mistakes in the first half to try and give that game to the Bears or it wouldn't have been that close.

Also, the top defense in the league gave up a long TD on the Eagle's last drive. That is what cost them the game. I feel bad people are blaming the kicker.

The Bear's management tried to save a couple of bucks and now their paying for it...

Since Bears cut Robbie Gould, they’ve missed 19 field goals and he’s missed 3

Felt like I watched the Bears lose twice in the last two minutes. Wish they had held on to Alshon Jeffery. Not sure I would want to be a field goal kicker. That is a rough gig.

Just saw a story where the NFL has credited one of the Eagles players with tipping and thus changing the trajectory of the ball.
End result is the same obviously but maybe a bit easier for the kicker to deal with mentally.
