HOUSTON, Texas — Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call for service and appear to have averted an ambush by the grace of God. When the deputies arrived at the location in Humble, Texas, in the dark, a man wearing all black opened fire from the woods. The lives of the deputies appeared to have been spared when the suspect’s rifle jammed and he was unable to clear it.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez told Breitbart Texas that he does not know why 46-year-old Kenyon Levor Coleman opened fire on the deputies when they arrived at the call for service address in Humble, a suburb on Houston’s northeast side. He suspects it may have been an attempt to ambush the deputies.
In a post on social media, Gonzalez said Coleman waited for the deputies in a wooded area. When the deputies arrived, he opened fire, the sheriff said. Fortunately, Coleman’s rifle jammed and he was unable to clear the mechanism. He then fled on foot into the woods.
Deputies chased Coleman into the woods and eventually took him into custody without incident. Deputies also found the rifle.
“Appears as though the initial call for service was a possible fake/swatting call,” the sheriff wrote on X. “Coleman wore all black clothing and had a chair set up armed with the rifle and numerous amounts of ammunition.”
Court records obtained by Breitbart Texas reveal that police arrested Coleman in March 2023 on a firearms felony charge of having an unregistered “machine gun.” Prosecutors later dismissed the charge on the grounds of “insufficient evidence.” District Clerk records indicate that 488th District Court Judge Matthew Peneguy, in compliance with the law, ordered that the gun be returned to Coleman in March 2024. Records describe the gun as an AK-47 rifle. The judge also ordered the return of a body armor vest, two ballistic plates, and an unidentified quantity of 7.62x39mm ammunition.
The weapon seized in the Tuesday morning incident also appears to be an AK-47 rifle. An expended shell casing is clearly visible jammed in the ejection port. The photos posted by Sheriff Gonzalez also show a chair sitting by the edge of the woods.
Gonzalez said no deputies were injured in the attack. Coleman was taken into custody. Jail records do not currently show Coleman booked into the jail.

That recoil spring cover doesn’t look quite right. That might have caused a problem, and saved a couple deputies.

Obviously a right-winger. Why, you can almost see his MAGA hat under his dreads.

There is no cover on that AK. Also the case was likely stuck in there by the cops to show clear.
AK’s run fine without the dust cover generally speaking.
Now I have never thought about ambushing anybody nor do I have current or any likely future plans to do so. That said I think I’d leave my bright blue lawn chair at home, but like I said what do I know about ambushes maybe that’s standard kit.

Either it was or wasn't a unregistered machine gun. Wonder if this is an example of liberal prosecutors looking for a reason to let this guy go unpunished.

The online Officer newsletter headline was “Jammed Rifle Foils Texas Ambush.” Then I saw the picture of the rifle and said to myself: “Impossible! Everyone knows that AKs cannot jam. Blasphemy!”

Well yeah... because it's missing.

Not necessarily. A missing dust cover doesn't itself affect the functioning of an AK. That's purely to keep dirt and debris out. An AK can cycle just fine with no dust cover.
More telling is that the rifle itself appears to be fairly rusty. And if the outside of his rifle looks like that, there's no telling how rusty/crusty/dirty/degraded the interior, springs, magazine, and/or ammo were.
So it's more like that those LEOs are lucky he didn't bother to maintain his rifle.
AKs don't require as much care and maintenance as many other designs, but they're still machines and still made out of metal, so still do need some in order to prevent malfunctions and corrosion. This message has been edited. Last edited by: RogueJSK,

It's Harris County (i.e. the county that contains Houston) so the DA is most definitely a libtarded Soros funded shitstain.

It does appear to have the full auto selector notch (it's the one about 2/3rds of the way down the receiver and just above the selector in its current semiauto setting), which might at first glance lead someone to believe that it was a machine gun. But that doesn't mean anything in and of itself, just like having a third setting on your AR15's receiver's selector doesn't itself mean it's capable of full auto.
You'd need to see the other side of the receiver to tell if it has the necessary sear pin and is therefore a machinegun receiver. (Much like looking for the sear pin hole in a M16 lower.) Or else look at the internals for something like a DIAS/lightning link used to convert a semiauto into full auto.

Not necessarily, it could mean several things. For example:
whined like a little bitch so they had to take him to hospital before booking.
delay in booking appearing online

Thanks Rogue, I see now. That’s the actual bolt in the first picture. I was looking at the back of it, and it’s shaped like the back of the dust cover.

Or option 4, he has been charged federally due to his history. I’m told that AUSA’s are being pressured by this administration to make violent crime their focus.

May work differently there, but here the federal arrests are still booked in at the county jail where they're held, with those bookings being public information like the others.
It just doesn't list their specific charges like state/local bookings, instead listing "Hold For Other Agency".

Jails here won’t “confirm nor deny” federal prisoners being on site here.
When I was with the feds, I arrested a guy on my federal complaint warrant. Lodged him in a local jail. Usually the Marshals transport after initial lodging. We got an order from the judge (don’t remember exactly why) to transport the suspect to the courthouse. I called the jail to tell them that we were coming to get him and they were quick to tell me that they count not confirm he was there.
I told them “I hope he’s there, I’m the one that delivered him to your custody”
