I'm very sorry for your loss. I had a tiny toy poodle that lived to be 17 and he was my shadow. It tears your heart out when they pass but eventually the healing hands of time will work.

Went through the same thing about two weeks ago. The first time in my life I was left with the responsibility since my wife passed. Hated it but with the help of a friend of my wife's we all stayed at the vets until the end.

Sorry for your loss. Hang in there.

So sorry for your loss. Everyone else has it covered on how they leave a big empty whole. I've been in your shoes, it's never easy. Prayers for you. When the time is right, get another pet. I don't want a home without the pitter patter of their little paws.

Thanks guys. I know the pain will get different. I don't think the pain of loss of a loved one ever gets better. I was so involved with giving him all of his meds and treatment these last months I had not realized how much of my time revolved around him. I would have done anything for him. There is not a place in our home that doesn't have some memory of him. Dogs are a gift from God, especially my little guy.

Sorry to hear of your loss. My wife and I are both disabled ( on the young side ). We have good days but mostly bad ones. When I first became ill, we had dog named Wingnut Australian Cattle dog. He was in sync with those things both positive and negative. If I was doing bad he would jump on lap front paws on my right shoulder and would press his head against mine. He didn't budge until I told that the daddy is doing ok he would move to laying on my lap. He had cancer twice requiring surgery. We spent money we didnt have. NO REGRETS. As to heartbreak ............. you already have the cure the cure is GREAT Memories. Sounds to me you have many great memories. At first its hard to put aside the pain but that too will pass. It's that time when the great memories shine. Keep the faith, Friend. I apologize in advance for the long post.

Over the years I've seen many many examples of pets that come into our lives for a time (always shorter than we would want) and then leave us.

Often times I've seen clients suffering through emotional losses, physical challenges, or diseases-including the end of their own lives- who have had a stray wander up, a friend gift them a puppy or kitten, or some other seemingly random way of getting a pet. That, as Robert Frost eloquently stated, "has made all the difference" in so many lives. I never doubt that many are sent to us in our time of need, whether we realize it at that time or years into the future-or not ever.

I'm sorry for your loss, but if you ever doubt God has loved you, just look at what He gave you for your time of need.

Donothing, Largely for the most part I've always been a dog lover. When my last two passed over the "Rainbow Bridge" I basically swore off on animal ownership, I was a bit younger and that decision was a bit premature as I would find out. At one point or another most of us here have experienced that loss of a pet, it's very hard, and my heart goes out to you. Up until recently I held to that decision of no pets until one day my wife drops this little kitten in my lap. She felt me being more homebound and alone most times I should have a companion. And then it came over me again, my heart took another in..even this wired little kitten. I also realize too that knowing that at some point if it doesn't outlive me, it too will go the way of the bridge, though currently, I wouldn't trade the companionship of him now for the world. He was the last and runt of a litter actually headed for the shelter when my wife snagged him.

Looking back now, though a bit impulsive making that "no-pet" rule because of the pain of loss, was more selfish on my part as there are so many wonderful animals that need a loving home and desperate attention, it's a non-decision and I hope many will find their way back to taking in another when that pain allows. It's changed two lives for the better, mine and my cat.

Hang in there brother, and cherish those memories, and in time just maybe you can make more once again..

Regards, Will G.

Condolences to you and your family for your loss. In 32 years of marriage, my wife and I have had four Scottish Terriers go over the rainbow bridge, and we got a new puppy last year. Dogs are God's gift to us, and we all pray that we see them in Heaven when it's our time.
