Lost my best friend (dog)
New here but have followed the forum for years. Had to put my best buddy to sleep Wednesday. He was a toy poodle that we had for a month shy of 13 too short years. (I know, a really manly dog.) We got him right after I started some really rough treatment for throat cancer in 2007. He would not let me out of his sight and we were constant companions ever since. Teddy was smart and loved life.

Unfortunately, he had some health problems that we knew might shorten is life and we almost lost him several times through the years. We spent a bunch of money on that little guy but I do not regret a penny. His health took a turn for the worst last fall and gradually deteriorated until this Wednesday when the end came. All the medicine and love in the world was not going to save him and we had to make the most difficult of decisions.

I'm 66 and know that life is precious and a gift from God. I've lost my parents and any number of family and friends. Death is never easy but this is beyond words. I've read many of the posts that you folks have made when you lost pets and I know you understand. I really don't know why I am posting this. I wish there was medicine for a broken heart.

Someone once told me that when you die, the gates of heaven open and your pets will run out to greet you. My condolences.

Very sorry to hear. They rip your heart out when they go. All you can do is love them and give them the best life you can while they are here with us.

I’m sorry to hear of your buddy’s passing. Our pets give us their whole heart when they’re with us and take a piece of ours with them when they leave.

So sorry to hear. When the time is right, find another pup, not to replace yours but to give another pup a forever home. There's to many in shelters that need someone like yourself as a best friend.

Our male Rottie is almost 10 years old with complications of Diabetes. He's on insulin but it's only a matter of time. I can't stand to think of being without him.

You're never to old to have a best friend.

Really very sorry for your loss. Poodles are great dogs...really smart and affectionate and even protective of their families.
I really believe we will see them again one day.

They are such a great gift to us, and their time with us is all too short. The loss is painful.

Donothing, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. There is a bond between man and dog that is hard to explain to those who have only owned cats. Dogs are different, in my experience hey they tend to be more in tune with you, more trainable and IMO more intelligent. I cannot imagine the pain you feel right now. It sounds like your dog was there for you during one of the hardest things one can ever face.

One of the hardest things you can endure on this planet is outliving your dog. Just just sucks. I’m sorry man.

I am so sorry for your loss. We lost our 12 year old Lily last February They are family! They fill our hearts and then leave them a little broken when they leave. For me, time has not made the hurt go away, but I do have many fond memories. Hopefully your many good memories will help you get through.
