My Dyson V11 just died - about 4 years old. The battery seems dead - no power to display and the blue leds don't light up when I connect the charger. It was working, then I emptied the bin and was going to vacuum some more but it was dead. No warning.

It was $500 I think, so $125 per year or $10 per month. Vacuum once a month so $10 per 30 min of use. Seems expensive.

Debating whether to stick to corded, buy a V10 (oddly V10 is still available but the V11 is no longer for sale; V10 would be weaker suction than V11 by 20% but maybe still enough), or buy a V15 but expensive at $800.

I'd consider the V15 but hesitant if it's only going to last 4 years. At that price, I would need it to last at least 8 years but I'm not confident.

Maybe this is the of Dyson for me.

Replace the battery?

Well that sucks, or not.

Had to replace the battery in ours a while back, but we had it for maybe 5 years.

Maybe it's just the battery. Is it easily replaceable/interchangeable like those of power tools, or integral?

Thanks. I'm just not sure it's the battery. The vacuum was working fine and had at least 50% charge left (per the battery indicator). It just abruptly stopped working. Not sure if it's the battery or the computer. That being said, the battery blue leds that usually light up when charging aren't turning on now. It's not clear on the webz, including the dyson site, whether this is indicative of battery of the computer.

$150 for a new battery is expensive if it's not the battery. I'm gonna try to find someone w/ a dyson and see if I can borrow their battery to test.

If it's the battery, is easy to replace.

We've got a cordless Dyson in my office, and it is just terrible. Just plain terrible. The cordless Ryobi I have at home works far better, last longer, hold more, and can easily swap batteries on the fly... all at a quarter of the price.

Ne did that and Dyson sent me a new battery. I suspected it was the charger so I ordered one off eBay. I was right and now I have 2 batteries.

Dyson sent a new battery under warranty? Out of warranty? Or you bought one?

I think the warranty is only two years so I'm out; unless the battery warranty is longer (doubtful?).

Why not test the battery with a meter?

Assuming it is the battery, at $130-$150 from Dyson, it rivals the cost of lower-end new vacuums. Shark (I've had a corded one for 10 years and it has been satisfactory) starts at $200-ish.

You might go to YouTube and search “Dead tool battery jumpstart”.

There are multiple videos, you might not need an identical battery to do this.

Warning, you might ruin your existing vacuum.

Wear safety glasses, long sleeves, eye protection.

I have a cordless drill-driver that wouldn’t work. I jump started the battery, then charged it and now it works and things are still good.
