Any bloodhound owners out there? Looking for info on this dog. Half serious, half kidding with the dreamsmasher who is not a fan of this breed. Special traits of this breed ? Wife says dog will lock on a scent and be lost over the horizon.

I have 4 hounds... (always fighting for the prime sunning location) A sight hound that we can not identify completely as to breed and 3 scent hounds (redbone coonhound, treeing Tennessee brindle, and what we think is a bloodhound dominant/redbone mix, but may be 100% bloodhound). The bloodhound just turned a year old. All are rescues from bad situations (puppy mills, abuse, etc.). They may not be 100% pure bred (I think 2 of them are), but there is no mistaking what they are. They will lock on a scent, but that works both ways. I have had one find its way home after chasing a scent (I did not purposely let her go, she was just gone when I lost track of her for 30 seconds). If you do a little training, this can be overcome. They are VERY VOCAL. If you cannot stand the barking, howling, moaning, especially around their breakfast and dinner, then I advise against them. This is what we love about hounds, they talk. They are definitely not for an apartment or if you have young children (newborns) as the kid will never get any sleep Here is a link to a video of 2 of them carrying on with me provoking them. Sorry for the crappy lighting... It was a quick cell phone capture so that I could show the wife how bad they missed her. They will do this without provocation, like I said, usually around meal time and any time they feel like it. Pups Talking Tomorrow I will get a better video at feeding time and post it. Also, they are strong dogs. If you are timid on the lead, they could pull you over (smaller men, women, kids). This message has been edited. Last edited by: bozman, The "Boz"

I have a Bloodhound. He'll be one year old in a few weeks. A very vocal dog who likes to get up on things...tables, counters, benches, truck beds, etc. He also thinks he's a lap dog and will be all over you unless you make him back off.

I have 2 females a purebred redbone and a purebred blue tick. The redbone is way calmer and doesn’t like to be outside unless I’m outside. The blue will go outside and chase squirrels and anything else that catches her fancy, for hours. We are moving to a place with 2.5 acres and they will have ample space to hunt smells

purebred blue tick female and purebred English male coon hound. Both rescues. I've been owned by some great dogs but these 2 are fantastic.

His diet consists of black coffee, and sarcasm. |
I have been around or had some coonhounds (Treeing Walker, Bluetick, Black & Tan). Have you got a house with a reasonably-sized and well-fenced yard, and some distance, say, 500 feet minimum (more is better), between your neighbors? Their howls and bays will carry quite a distance.

Please,Please remember they are a VERY VOCAL breed. Please keep this as your first thought. People end up having to get rind of the dog due to this issue. This is what the breed was bread for. Its instinct now. I miss my hound Buttons, one of the best dogs I owned. Smart and great hunter of every animal around. Keep Americans working, buy American made!
