Of equal importance to the actual barrier is the surveillance and ability to respond to attempted breaching rapidly. This incident is a perfect example of the system working. That is why Trump needs to stop calling the whole process “the wall” and refer to it as simply “border security”. It would be a lot easier to sell to the leftist politicians.

Why do you think the left is so opposed to a wall? It's not the expense, which is the only excuse they can use without coming right out with their agenda. The most sophisticated surveillance technology in the world can simply be shut down and ignored. And that's precisely what they'll do as soon as they are able. However, you can't press a button and shut down a physical barrier. That's why they don't want a wall.
