I don’t want bird seed stored inside. I just don’t have the room for it. I’ve had those little rats eat my shed then eat plastic buckets to get a meal. Has anyone used a galvanized trash can to store seed on the patio and not had these sneaky bastards get into it? Maybe a Behrens locking lid container would be better. What do you think?

I use galvanized trash cans for my chicken feed (stored outside). Just make sure that you keep the feed in the bag. Zinc from the galvanizing can leech into the feed and kill the birds. Lost a couple of chickens that way before I figured it out. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Doug Patton.

Get the hot bird seed, Squirrels hate it, been using it all year the Cardinals love it... Store mine in a cabinet on the outside patio, unless they get through the screen then can eat through stone we're golden..

We have used galvanized metal trash cans for 20 years. We silicone the handle if they have a hole there . Also racoons will push the lids off , So a fastener is required. Yes metal is required as animals will chew through the plastic cans. Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Neck Ties, Hats and ammo brass, Never ,ever touch'em w/o asking first

Had this happen to me a few years ago. Had my roof replaced (metal), and put the seed in metal trash cans stored outside. Only problem I have is rainwater seeping thru thru lids. Quick remedy is to line with heavy-duty, plastic trash bags. Need to drain the cans out monthly.... No critters have opened the cans in the 4 years I've stored seed outside!

Yep... galvanized can/pail. You can get smaller ssizes at Tractor Supply with a locking lid. Works perfectly. Andrew Duty is the sublimest word in the English Language - Gen Robert E Lee.

I just picked up a (Behrens?) bucket with a locking lid. I hope that will keep the Mrs. happy and the tree rats frustrated.
